| Post subject: | Replacement Heavy-Duty CV Boots |
So I took my jeep in to get the CV boto fixed. The dealership told me that the previous dealership put a "block" on my warranty, and I'd have to return it to factory specs to get the boot warrantied. Time time and hassle of removing and reinstalling the frankenlift is just retarded, so I will pay the $260 to replace the boot. It got me to thinking, however: Are there any CV boot replacements for the liberty? Something that can handle the extra stretching and damage? The dealership basically said "we can put another one on, but it'll just rip again". I found this place online that makes the Millenium CV Boot: How can the boot stretch so far without ripping? The Millennium CV-Boot is made of a unique rubber compound that has an elastic memory superior to any other rubber compound. This enables the Millennium CV-Boot boot to stretch over 800% of its original size before reverting to its original dimension. Detailed fitting instructions will be provided to our clients. 800% stretch before a tear?? I can't even picture a rubber boot stretching that far! |

Why would it automatically rip again? I have the same KJ and same lift as you, and no ripping in my boots. |

Oh, I agree. But then again, I have to wonder, "why did it rip in the first place?". It didn't rip when I installed the lift, and it didn't rip on the wheeling trip the day after. It ripped 3-4 weeks later just driving on-road. I mean, of course I hope it doesn't rip again, but I have to wonder if it will. Maybe I should just buy tires and get an alignment, I wonder if an alignment would have much effect on the CV angle (I never got one after installing the lift) |

I have the same problem. My passenger side boot ripped shortly after installing the lift. I'm running extreme CV angles. I've got over 8,000 miles on the ripped boot. Still no tell-tale popping sounds. I've been holding out for the new J.E. Reel CV joints or the new RRO CV axles. Still tinkering with plans for a leaf-sprung SFA. |

I'm beginning to wonder if those boots are torn at all, just the shift in CV angle made the grease have to go somewhere. Have you actually located a tear or just the tell tale grease all over everything signs? |

First I cleaned off the entire area, removed all the grease from everything, including the boot. Then I drove for another day, and when I looked at it, I found fresh grease, and located what I think is the tear. It's small, but it leaked a lot of grease and continues to spurt grease. The fact that only the passenger side is spurting grease is a good sign, too, and it doesn't seem to be coming out of the clamp so much as out of the middle of the top. |
