| Post subject: | PCM problems anyone? |
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, but not new to Jeeps. I've been a member of L.O.S.T. since last week some time and read through alot of posts and decided that it was time to make my presence known by posting my own. I'm 36 years young, live near Baton Rouge, LA and have owned 2 Cherokees, 2 Wranglers, and I'm on my second Libby right now. I still have a 2002 Wrangler that I use for work. It has over 128K miles on it and I have yet to have the first thing go wrong with it. The only thing I have done to it is changed the oil regularly and put gas. I have yet to change the plugs and/or associated electrical equipment, the serpentine belt, radiator flush, or O2 sensors. It runs like the day I bought it...no complaints there! Just a little over a week ago I bought a pre-owned 2005 Liberty Sport, silver, with Selec-trac, towing package, and a 6 disc in dash changer. It has less than 12K miles on it and I got it for $15,995.00. Not bad eh?!! However, upon leaving the dealership, not ten minutes down the road, the check engine light came on and the speedometer quit working. Hardly phased by this because the vehicle seemed to be well cared for, the Carfax came back clean, and it is otherwise mechanically sound. I brought it to the dealer and their diagnostics traced it down to the "Primary Control Module". Has anyone had similar problems? It affects more than just the speedometer though. The doors won't lock at 15 MPH when it goes on the fritz and the cruise can't be set. Not only that, but there is no way to be certain of how many miles are actually on the vehicle since the odometer is affected as well. Judging from the tire wear, it's not far off. That's if they are in fact the factory tires. When I bought it, it had 11,687 miles on it and I have driven it at least 450 miles since and the odometer reads only 11,850. Anyway, that's my story ad I'm stickin' to it! Hope to hear from some of you folks soon! |

Wow, I cant say I hear about this to often but I have heard of it. Sucks when you get a new Jeep hoping its going to be as good as the others and it turns out not to be. Another thing to look out for is balljoints, they WILL go bad. I have a set of Moogs on order to replace mine which only has 19k on it. Ive heard of them going bad with only 7k, and that was an 05. |

Well I can't say much about the pcm but my speedo, odometer, and cruise(including the powerlocks not locking at 15mph) and it was a bad speed sensor on the rear axle.Might want them to check that out, that may be what's causing it(in my case it ended up being just a broken wire to the speed sensor but the code came up malfunctioning speed sensor),just a thought. |

The dealership notified me today and as it turns out, it was the rear speed input sensor that was bad. They had one in stock and I'm ready to roll...that is if I can find someone to bring me to the dealership now. |
