Post subject:  Frankenlifted finally!!!!!

I just put the finishing touches on my Frankenlift... the clevis on each side was by far the hardest thing to do.

With all of that done, i just have two questions... I don't have an angle drill, so do i have to run the daystar bumpstops in the back? or can i at least wait to put them on???

My other question has to do with the alignment, how long should i wait to get one, i am getting my MTR's put on tomorrow, and just would like to know how long to wait for the steering alignment.

All in all, i have nothing but an ear to ear grin :D

For the bumpstops, you can use a regular drill, the hole just won't be perfectly straight - which isn't a big deal, as long as you can get the bumpstops more or less centered. Or, if you want to wait you can, I wouldn't recommend wheeling with them off and risk losing a spring.

As for the alignment, some people will say otherwise, but I'd go ahead and get it done if you're putting on some new MT/R's right away. I waited a couple of days and managed to round off the corners on my AT's. Not a big deal, but if they're new tires you probably don't want to do that. Then after it's settled, if the alignment seems out of whack go get another.

Agree with white04kj on everything - the drilling for the bumpstops does not have to be straight - get the alignment done right after you put your MTrs
I drove without alignment for a couple days - it feels really weird

I waited a few days to see if the lift would settle a little bit and then took it in.

Scour your local phone book for a lifetime alignment. It is a little extra but worth it in the long run. I think it was about $30 bucks extra here, but I have already saved myself $40, since the first time I took it off road, I had to get it realigned. So now the alignment has payed for itself and I get free alignments for the rest of the time that I own the vehicle!

The bumpstop isnt made to keep the spring in is it? I thought it was so you could run bigger+wider tires and not rub the fender. If you think about it, the bumpstop being on the bottom will not keep a spring from falling out since it falls from the top. The bumpstop on the top would need to be longer to keep it from fallling out.

Either way, the bottom one will help a bit to keep it in, but it's main function is to keep you from ripping off your rear fenders.

A little bit of both. It keeps you from bottoming your shocks out, but it also helps to hold the spring in too when the rear is flexed out. With our suspensions, the rear doesn't flex a whole lot compared to TJ's and the like, so it's not a huge deal, and the top does do more to hold it in. I believe some people have lost their spring in the rear because they didn't have a bumpstop installed though.

The bottom bumpstop is definitely required to keep the spring in under flex conditions. Just drill at an angle if you need to and put it in. It'll serve you a lot better than losing the spring and having it bounce around at hit the car behind you.

If you use a bottle jack to flac the rear the the angel won't be much at all. Be sure to loctite the bumpstop bolt.

I have been running w/o bumpstops for 2 years, and never lost the springs...

I have never removed the rear sway bar though
