Post subject:  Is this normal... Frankenlift issues??? Please HELP!!!

I installed my Frankenlift lastnight, and had 245/75/16 Goodyear MT/R tires put on today. I have not had it aligned as of yet, which explains the weird feeling in the steering wheel.

But when i hit occasional bumps (deeper potholes) in the road, i hear a sort of popping noise (possibly from the front), as if one of the struts are making contact with the frame sometimes. I have checked everything out down underneith, and i'm still kinda stumped at what this could be??? I am wondering if it will go away after i get everything aligned?????

I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that your upper a arms are coming in contact with the spring. See JeepinAl for some A arms.

Yep...when your A arms droop back down after a compression they are probably contacting the strut spring. Take a look at your UBJ and see if the boot is torn yet...If it isn't, you can add a homemade bumpstop and protect the UBJ. Just jack the KJ up so the front suspension is at full droop. See where you could attach some thick rubber(flat but can bend around the strut)so that the metal curve of the UBJ hits the rubber before the actual ball joint contacts the spring. You can make it pretty big and secure with large hose clamps. Just make sure the clamps don't contact the UBJoint either.

Then save some $$$ for Jeepin Al's A-Arms with replaceable ball joints.

I thought that was the issue when i drove it for the first time, it makes a clunking noise. It looks like it does come close to hitting, and probably even more so when the pressure on the strut is relieved. The more the suspension is able to "droop" on that side, the more likely it will contact. Is this somthing that will eventually go away once the lift settles out? I think just as a precautionary measure, i will make a guard out of some thick rubber for now.

Also i am hearing a little vibration once taking off and turning, i am guessing that this is due to the bigger tires and not having it alligned yet. it looks as if the Tow is out a little.

The franken lift comes with bumpstops already on the spacer to protect the upper balljoint, so not thats not it. Make sure that the bumpstop is in place and it aligned correctly so this will not happen. Hopefully the balljoint is not harmed yet.

If you're talking about the bump stops that were hose clamped around the bottom spacer, I don't see them in his pic.

I think All J was trying to get Daystar to build them into the actual spacer. Might want to look into that. Maybe they discontinued the quick fix.

on the bottom spacer, there is a little piece that stuck out, kinda like a makeshift bumpstop, i had no hoseclamped spacer supplied.... look at the very bottom of the picture, you can kinda see that little piece sticking out

Yeah, mine came equipped with the bump stop. Unfortunately, the a arm was coming into contact with the spring above it.

I'm thinking that is my problem, although at rest it doesn't look like it is possible fot it to touch, Are there any remedys for this issue. Does anyone have any info for jeepin al's upper control arms, or any "quick fix" that is actually worth doing?

Jack the jeep up so the arm can droop(not by the lower control arm) and see if it hits it. Thats the best way to figure that one out.

Retorque all your bolts. I know that sounds simple enough, but it never hurts to check. After doing the Clevis lift on mine I was driving and hearing a crashing/popping sound from the Left Front. I found that my Swaybar was bolts were not torqued enough (on the Left side).

Good Luck!!

I believe we have a winner!!!! I double checked the swaybar bolts, and sure enough one was loose. I have absolutely no rubbing of the springs on the UBJ, the only thing left to do now is install my rear Daystar bumpstops, and a wheel alignment. :D
