My limited has a mnfg's date that is pre pre-lowering. My question is...did they continue to lower them as a recall? How did they lower them? Do I need to consider lowering in my purchase of a lift kit? What size tires are equal to 31" tires and lastly What performance mods do you guys have done and what kind of a difference did they actually make? I am thinking about going for a 2.5 inch lift 30 or 31" tires depending on clearance issues and an aftermarket cold air intake, chip and exhuast. eventually a skidplate and some sliders. |

No, it wa sa manufacturing change, not a recall, so all liberties purchased before the date are higher than those purchased afterwards. I believe it was just the length of the coil that did it, with no other changes. Quote: Do I need to consider lowering in my purchase of a lift kit? Yes and no. If you are getting a spacer lift, you need to be aware of the extra height from a pre-lowered, because you will need less of a spacer to get to the maximum height (yes there is a maximum height. It varies, but the idea is that you want to keep the CV angles manageable). If you are getting a suspension lift, you will be changing out the springs anyway, so it will have the same effect on your jeep as one that was lowered, since the springs are gone anyways. Quote: What size tires are equal to 31" tires 245/75R16 is a 31" tire, and is what the majority of the people are running 265/70R16 is a 31" tire. It's the same diameter, but a lot wider 225/85R16 is about a 31" tire. Not many people run this one, it's pretty narrow. If you're planning on going offroad, I suggest getting the skids + sliders BEFORE the lift. The lift just lets you bang your exposed undercarriage on much larger things. You should have no problem fitting 31s under a 2.5" lifted liberty. Good luck! |

Thank you very much for the info! Very infomative. I was just going to do the puck thing for now. Money is tight for awile but I want to get out there and have some fun. Darn the consequences!! lol!! So with a full height rig a 2" lift will be all I need to clear 31" tires? One more question...How much backspacing can you run before you run into the fender well and with how wide of a rim/tire combo? I like a W.I.D.E. stance! |

If you have an 02 pre-lowered, the Rocky Road Outfitters 2.125" Combo kit is a low priced and dependable lift kit. Just add Rancho struts and rear shocks and you're good to go. You can save money on skids by looking in the "parts for sale section" down at the end of the topics. A tire with a 10.5" center section is the max. Anymore backspacing than 4.5" is going to give you problems stuffing the rear tires. Crager Black Soft 8's come in a 16 X 8 W/5" of backspacing and should work fine with a 245/75/16 of your choice. |

I just finished mounting Rubicon Moab wheels and Goodyear MT/R 245/75-16 (31") on my '02 prelowered. I only lifted it around 1" by installing some 1/2" clevis spacers and another pair of rear spring isolator pads. I am barely getting rubbing up front on the pinch weld and under the fog light door when I turn the wheel. A little heat gun and sledgehammer work and I should be OK. It's a tight fit, but it's driveable. |
