Has anyone fabbed up some kind of protection for the body to lower control arm mounts for the rear? I beat up my driver's side mount so bad that the joint itself is exposed. |

Got any pictures of it, and/or the object that caused it? |

I know what you mean. A simple piece of flat 3mm steel welded directly between the mount should do the trick nicely. When I get a chance i'm going to do mine. I believe AL has done it ? |

Here is what they look like
In addition, I relocated the shocks. I would not recommend that they be put so close to the backing plates. Put them back where the OEM mounts where. On lifted KJ's use the stock lenght shock. The new mounts are around 2 inches shorter than the OEM mounts. Al PS this picture is around 2 years old, a lot of other mods have happen since this picture was taken. |

Al, Any chance you'll be making shock mounts that will accept the longer aftermarket shocks too? I looked under my KJ about a week or two ago and noticed it was bent so bad that I could not get it unbolted. Looks like a big wrench or something will be needed to bend it back straight or out comes the torch and grinder. I like the skid idea too, might have to do that when i'm under there fixing the shock problem. laters, Mike |

No, the reason I put the shorter mounts on is due to the fact that one of those jumping rocks jumped up and tore the mount right off the axle tube. So they are now shorter so the rocks can't get to them.. I have been over some rough stuff, and the shock (knock on wood) has not encountered any jumping rocks to date. Al |

The Skidrow plates are for the axle end of the control arms on solid front axle Jeeps. My problem is with the mount where the rear LCA attaches to the body. JFortier777: I'll try to take a shot of it tomorrow for ya. |

I had the same problem. I had my dealership (they also have an offroad shop) fab up a set of skids for my mounts. At first they tried to make a set of Currie LCA skids fit, but they couldn't, so they just cut some steel and welded it on. Here are the pics:
I've banged them up pretty good since then though. |

David: I'll have to see if a shop around here can do for me what your dealer did for you. Looks good. Here's the promised pic. It looks much worse in person. The control arm is also pretty dented, but it's still straight and square at least.

One thing that would help up all is to get some 03+ control arms. They seem to be much smaller and stronger than your alls. Wonder when they changed them? Here is what mine look like.

![]() Wow, those are some freakishly small control arms. I can't imagine they'd stand up to any abuse at all... |
