I would just first of all like to say thank you for all your welcome's, that one thing I love about these forums (I belong to a couple snowmobile ones).... Always a sense of "home" created by the members.

So here is my question:

I have noticed a couple sounds, 1 I am sure I know what it is and the other I'm not so sure on...

First, A couple days after I got the reny, I noticed a low rpm vibration sound... turns out a baffle let go in the
muffler, no biggy. But here is my question... Should I just replace it with a OEM replacement or go aftermarket.
With purchasing the Jeep and all I probably don't have the coin right now.... but if it's gonna be something that
I'll want to do in the future, then I might as well do it now..... So thats the first part, now if I am to go aftermarket,
any suggestions?

Second, I am noticing a farely apparent clunk from my right front when I go slowly over a bump (under 5 mph)
usually if I'm over that you never hear it. Just wondering what this might be? I have read lots of the ball joint posts,
and I would be lead to beleive that could be the reason.... But perhaps someone with more experience around these
jeeps could show me the wiser!!

On a final note: As stated by someone in my previous thread.... "Do your reny a favour and get it off the pavement"
well on Saturday night (at night probably wasn't the smartest move, but the lights on the reny are AWESOME) I took your advice and took the reny for a little walk in the woods.... Nothing major just a narrow hill climb with a couple washouts to cross and at the top 3 water holes to cross.... and she did awesome... I can tell you FOR SURE that won't be the last mud or trail that she sees...

Anyways, Thanks in advance for the advice....

Cheers,

TVBrian

The cluck could be a balljoint, but they are being recalled later on this year. I would check them to make sure its them, if they are not to bad then I would wait.

Click the link below to find out how to check balljoints, there is also a vid in that thread...

With the exhaust, if you dont have the money, then dont worry about. Wait until you feel ok spending money on that, unless you believe it may be causing a lose in performance. A flowmaster muffler can be gotten for around $100, give or take. Ive heard the SUV50 series sounds the best over-all. The 40 series is the loudest if thats what you want.

Take it easy and make yourself at home!!! :D

Was I the one to say take it off-road?

Okay, how long ago is two days after you got your Reny? That should be something you take back to the dealer and claim that they should fix/replace it. Isn't there a clause about a few days after you buy a vehicle that you can take it back? Raise some holy heck with them. That is just wrong if it breaks after two days of ownership.

Guess I should ask. Is this a brand spanking new KJ or a used one? I had that clunk noise when I went over speed bumps with my Reny when it was still brand new and before any mods. My LBJ's are just fine. (Knock on wood) Wouldn't hurt to get it checked though. Know anyone with auto repair experience that can ride with you and listen to the noise?

As for the exhaust, I always use the ol'e saying - When it breaks- build it better. I have a gibson system sitting on the garage floor just waiting for the weekend. It has been killing me as I have had it for several weeks now, but buisness trips are snatching time quicker than I can make it :(

Review the treads, exhaust does not make much improvemnt on performance or MPG, but it sure sounds nice, and that is what I am going for.

Yes Tokyojoe, that was you!!!

First of all this is a 2004 Reny and I bought it privately... With the exhaust, I know it's just a fluk thing that
a baffle would let go that soon after getting it.... I'm not really the type of person to go back on the girl
I bought it from, since there is no way they could have known it was gonna go... I think I'm gonna just pick up a FM and put it in place of the stock muffler, since the rest of the system is still in really good shape...

As for the Front end noise... I'm gonna do the LBJ check and if that isn't to bad, then I'll just wait for the recall... and I'll just keep an eye on it in the meantime...

Thanks again...

Try tightning your trac-bar with a impact gun, then torque to spec. I don't know the specs though, 75-100psi sounds right though.

The kj does not have a trac-bar. It has an upper A-arm on the back axle, which is where a trac bar would be. His clunk is coming from the front, which is IFS.
