| Post subject: | Rough Country's Splined Slip Shaft CV Axles |
I emailed Rough Country today to see if they were planning on making "their race inspired, patent pending constant velocity joints" currently available for 99-05 Chevy/GMC's available for the Jeep Liberty. "These CV joints have an operating range of up to 50 degrees with high angle boots and a splined slip shaft." They were featured in Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine's June 2006 issue. If you look closely (with a magnifying glass), you can make them out.
Oh, here's a better picture from the mag. Thank God for kids!
I have no idea what's happening with the J.E. Reel Drive Line CV joints. Has anyone heard anything? Another option could also be to have locking hubs like on Toyotas. That would greatly reduce wear and tear. While locked-up on the trails you really shouldn't hurt the axles going at those slow speeds. I don't know, what do you guys think? Would it be feasible/practical? |

| Post subject: | Getting the shaft? |
I have the JE Shafts and they are HD. They don't flex like this. I am glad you contacted them! I saw these about a month or two ago, this is just what we need! With the slip joint in the shaft it actually adds a little lenght to the over all shaft helping with the angle. Cool stuff. Al PS I have been toying with the idea of trying to adapt the Warn hub kit for the Cherokee. The bearings on our hubs look the same as the Cherokee ones. It just may work. I ned to get my hands on a Cherokee/TJ bearing to check. Than if I can get these guys to make me a set of shafts with the flanges I can than use the Dana 44 I have!!! |

Well, here's Rough Country's response: Thank you for your interest in Rough Country. We do not currently have this application on our R&D list. We may look into doing something like this in the future, so stay tuned! Thanks, /s/ Mike No one seems to be too interested in developing anything new for the Liberty. It seems one company (or individual) comes out with something new and everyone jumps on the band wagon producing the same exact design. The RR OTT appears to be the same as Rusty's and Teraflex's. At least RK varied it up a little with their 7" debacle and latest extended strut fork design. The aftermarket sure is slow at developing anything near original for the KJ. Same crap, nothing remotely resembling a quality lift that addresses the KJ's weaknesses. WTF, over? Oh, and let's not forget the front diff still sucks stupid. We've basically been piecemealing parts since 2002. Now that's perseverance! |

I think the more of us who writ ecompanies like this, the more we may be able to get them to accomplish. So I am going to write them as well on this subject. It is something we need and I beleive thay will have a lot a of business from us here. We jsut got to make them see the market is there. |
