Does anybody who installed one know if the diff had to be dropped to drill the air line hole? I gotta guy willing to put mine in if he doesnt have to pull the diff! I dont think so, but would like to confirm. Thanks.

Well if you don't pull the diff you can't put the ARB in...The stock carrier is remove and the ARB carrier replaces it. The whole process the diff is "out" most of the time.

I believe he is wanting to know if the axle needs to be dropped to drill a hole for the airline to the locker. Is that what you mean by,"the entire thing must come out?"

what I know about installing the ARB in an 8.25 is none cause I have never done one in an 8.25
but I have pulled the one out of my 30 several times

first has the guy ever installed an arb? it has a few tricks like the shims and berings
second I beleive that if you jack up the rear until it maxes out the suspension you should be able to drill in the top if the rear diff with little or no problems
you do NOT need to remove the whole axel hosing from the jeep huge waste or time if you can get the top of the diff below the gas tank thats all you need

you will need to remove every thing from the inside of the housing and I dont know about the 8.25 but on the 30 if you dont shim it right the "lolly pop" will spin and cut the metal air line easy

have fun

Sorry, I meant if the whole axle has to be removed to drill the air hole on top. Long story, but it's a Dodge dealer that I went to to get a ABS wheel sensor. My local crappy Jeep dealer said it would take 3 days to get (besides the fact that they said I also needed a whole new CAB modulator for $700 which was a load of BS...after charging me $45 just to pull the DRB codes :x )

Anyway-I walk in (parts is thru service bay) and a guy is working on a diff. I start talking to the parts guy and it ends up he's a wheeler who has built an XJ on 37's. I ask him for a good shop to get my ARB put in and he points to the guy who was working on the diff and says that guy does excellent diff work and has lots of experience. After trading some stories, they said they would do it at the dealership as a side job. The parts guy has installed ARB's but not in a KJ or 8.25 so the only part they were unsure of was if the axle had to come out. If they have to remove the axle, they said that may raise some eyebrows at the shop. To boot-He also knows some local places to wheel!! I found a new dealer if I ever need DRB scans or mopar parts, that for sure.

OK, misinformation control!

The 8.25 has SIDE ADJUSTERS... no shimming required. It does require a spanner tool to access them through the axle tubes, though. Yes, you can drill the hole without dropping the housing. If you're not sure, don't answer!

Drop me a line if you have any questions.

1) Nobody here said he HAD TO SHIM...someone mentioned that with the D30 shims were required but he was not sure on the 8.25

2) Most of the answers told him he would have to pull the diff...they did not say (except 1) that the housing had to be removed

3) This is a forum where many people can input...even if they can only give partial information...YOU do not have the last word on who can answer ANY post on this forum

4) If you left out the "OK,misinformation control!" and "If you're not sure, don't answer!" your post could have just been informative...Instead it was antagonistic in nature. You supply some the BEST information on this forum but it always seems to come at a cost to others here.
