I was lucky enough to talk to Seth at ARB and he has a spring info book but I did not ask about the rears etc. I really want to know what the stock CRD springs are.......

Me too. I'll have my stock springs off and on a press here soon. I wonder if there is a way to measure the ratings?

I would love to know the true lift & rates for some of the more popular springs.

**************************************************

Rustys = front 2.0"-2.5"? lift x 310lbs
Rustys = rear 2.0"-2.5"? lift x 150lbs

but what about
OME = 925LD front 1.25" (375lbs) - no rear =stock/light load
OME = 926MD front 1.5" (375lbs) & 947LD rear 1.75" (170lbs) =0-150lb load
OME = 927HD front 1.5" (400lbs) & 948MD rear 1.75" (200lbs) =150lb + load

Skyjacker = front 3.0" ? & rear 2.5" ?

Rock Krawler = rear 3.0" ?

**************************************************

I have a Rustys spacer lift & have been wanting to get new rear springs. The rear spacers gave me 2.0" lift, I would like to be at 2.5" after they sag-in. I have heard here that the OME rears give 2.0"-2.5" new but sag to about 1.5" when they break-in & that the Skyjacker rears give around 2.5"-3.0" at first but are too soft.

I think at some point I would go with the Frankinlift front with the MD springs insted of the HD springs, no plans for a bumper or winch, want firm but not too hard of ride.

What do you think? Any ideas?

A rookie question - A higher Spring rate is good , right?

If so, OME HD's are awful compared to Rusty's....if they are correct.

Higher isn't allways better. Too heavy of springs will give a very hard ride on a lighter rig.

The OMEsprings are much heavier than the Rustys.

Rustys front = 310lbs
OME HD front = 400lbs

Rustys rear = 150lbs
OME HD rear = 200lbs

I think the average stock spring rates for the 3.7L V6 are some were around
280lbs front
120lbs rear

but I could be wrong.

True that too heavy of a spring will give you a very hard , bad ride on a lighter vehicle, but with the OME HDs ride is good, handles good , I can take turns faster now than when it was stock, corners well. Yes it is firmer but I know that I am driving a 4 WD Jeep not Grandpas Caddy. Its been to Fla. and back once since the install and also a trip to Boston and back. Getting ready to go back to Boston and would I drive anything else....nope! My state (work) car is a Ford Taurus and I think the KJ rides better than it even.

You also have an ARB bumper, maybe a winch too? That is what the OME HD's are made for.

I have no plans for bumpers or a winch on the wifes KJ, that's what my XJ is for. :mrgreen: . I feel the HD's would be too stiff for my wife. Even the ARB & OME sites do not recomend the HD's unless you are useing the BullBar & winch.

LD = stock
MD = bumper
HD= bumper & winch

So far it is sounding like even the MD's might be a little stiffer than what I would like in the front (it's my wifes Jeep & she already thinks it rides stiff), Maybe a LD Frankinlift in front & Rustys or Skyjacker in rear.

But that is why I'm asking for what other people think & have learned from their lifts.

I know that the Frankinlift sits higher in the front (2.5" front to 1.75" rear) even after the springs sag-in. That is what I would like to avoid.

I ran the lift without the ARB to Orlando and back after I put it on and I like it that way. But if your wife thinks it is stiff now then go lighter I guess. Again its a matter of if taste, I like the somewhat stiffer ride over stock which I think is pretty wimpy to say the least.

According to what my ARB dealer said today...if you have a stock liberty (i.e. no bumper or winch), then they highly recomend the LD springs. The Liberty is also my wifes daily driver...so I had to keep the ride as close to stock as possible....I guess I'll find out next week when they install the OME lift with LD springs.

Did you happen to ask what the spring rate is for the LD front springs?
That's the only OME one that I'm missing from my list.
I'm still working on the SJ & RK rates.

and don't forget the pics when it's done :wink:

My dealer didn't know the rate either.....I'll get pictures when it is done...can't wait!

I found that the OME HD springs were really stiff with no weight on the front. They were so stiff, I would bottom out the suspension over small bumps or washboard. Adding the ARB Bull Bar completely changed the feel of the suspension, still stiffer than stock, but able to absorb bumps rather than pushing the front end up. If I had no plans for a bull bar or winch I would go with the LD coils in front.

Post subject:  spring rates

I have the arb and winch with a skyjacker lift . In the beginning it was great, now after three months it is sagging alot
and one of the struts has leaked out..........I'm not impressed !!

I'm trying to find an alternative and one member of the forum suggested using the Diesel front spring with a daystar
spacer in the front.

Now I see your discussion here on ome hd,md and ld springs, what's all this about and can someone " who has been there and done that " steer me in the right direction. I don't mind a stiff ride and I do tow a lot of stuff so heavy duty is better for
me .

I replied to this on your other post too. About the only way you will be able to stay tall enough in the front to fit the 265/75's with the ARB & winch is most likely the Frankinlift front kit with OME 948 springs.

I still haven't came to decision on the best rear springs yet. The SJ's give the most lift when new, but I beleave they are a fairly soft spring that sag kind of fast. The OME's are heaviest but don't give alot of lift, Rustys look to be somewhere between.
