Hi All,

At Camp Jeep, I was talking to a little birdie about our front differential. The little birdie of course knew all about it and "never heard of anybody swapping in a 2002+ Ram 1500 front diff for testing purposes". ;-)

Hmmmm....

I don't have the skills or experience to pursue this so though I'd throw it out there.

DonC

Is the ram diff a steel housing or aluminum?

It looks like it's alloy-minimum (English pronounciation from Junkyard wars), from what I can tell from ebay pictures:

What sucks is that the mounts for the Ram 1500 front diff are pretty different from ours. On the Ram the front diff mounts are actually part of the engine mounts. You'd have to fab up some sort of adapter mount.

I got this answer from some RAM guys. Seems like there are no options for this diff....

"The front differential in the 2002+ Ram's (IFS), is a 8" ring gear, or refered to as 'C205F' and in my opinion the most limited on options for offroading. As far as I know, there are zero upgrades for this differential. Many of us would like to find some kind of locker for this axle, but have had no luck. In my opinion, I'd keep the D30 because there are many aftermarket parts available for it. If I'm wrong in saying there are no upgrades for the C205F, then someone please correct me."

The Liberator concept had a GC front diff installed. I don't know any details, though, on how things mounted up.

Im sure someone that is good with welding and fabbing up parts could easily swap in a grand front end. That just happens to not be me though, hopefully it will be someday... :?

If the little birdie is lurking around, perhaps we could get hooked up with pics. No?

I have an ARB air locker installed in my 2004 2.8 CRD. The internal parts "DIFF" are so much stronger but it seems as its the alu housing thats the week link here all tho i have had no problems with mine.
