A quick google search...I found an XJ thread where they said you do not need thrust washers in the 8.25??

I just called Adam, sorry I couldn't help. He's dealing with a Tracloc, not an open diff.

IIRC I have read you have to grind the c-clips down slightly to get the axles to seat and reinstall the clips. Be sure to verify that though as I have not done it myself.

Is it the axles c-clips you are not able to reinstall?

I grinded the c clips. It really seems as if there's not enough room in the carrier to fit in the whole unit.

Is there any way that the backlash or one of the settings could be so far off in mine that it makes the opening smaller?

Or is the inside of the carrier fixed and I just ahve the wrong part?

WE GOT IT! Thanks for the support, as usual. LOVE MY LOST BOARD!

I think we just didn't have the passenger side all the way in. When my friend John tried it while I was on the phone with Eddo and I worked the axle in/out a bit, it went. 15 minutes later we were ready to re-assemble!

Test drive seems ok!

THANKS AGAIN.

I'll report back after next week's Jamboree!

This really makes me happy. To see the forum used in such a fashion that makes it what it is........A person cries out for help & within 2.5odd hrs, its all sorted and he's on his way.

As Mutt said, Outstanding.

I absolutely knew I could count on the folks here. I even called Quinn at All J, desperate for someone on western time who might still be in their office. They weren't there, but Mrs Quinn called me back and left a msg.

I also got a few more messages on my cell after I was done and was already in the shower.

THANKS AGAIN to all for your help!!!

In the end, I believe we didn't have the passenger side part all the way in. There's a tab or collar on the outter most edge of both sides of the unit, and while it was seated on the axle splines, I think it wasn't all the way into the housing. That 1/8" made the difference between go and no go.

NOW, IT GOES!

I took it for a spin around the block and WOW can you tell the difference. But only when you want to. In other words, heavy throttle on a tight turn from stand still, and that inside tire jumps A LOT more than with my stock trac-lock. but moderate throttle and it's fine. I'll put some street miles on today and see how it feels.

Oh, and those clutches on the trac-lock? What a joke. They are just 16 thin clutches. I can see how they will wear out and become useless.

Thanks again all!

Usually when it rains no matter how easy I am on the throttle it will lock up under load. Its engineered to work with torque. Ive also noticed it locks up alot more with my generals. I came to the conclusion that since the tread was so much deeper on those, they would allow some flex between the road and the tire making the powertrax think I was loosing traction.

I've been driving around as much as I can today and so far I LIKE IT! I can really feel it engage and disengage a lot. I bet my wife won't notice, but I do. That's a testament to how well it's working.

The weirdest thing is when I'm coming out of a turn and on the gas. The Jeep isn't going straight yet, but the locker has engaged both wheels. The creates a funny steering sensation; the steering wheel doesn't return to center the same as it did before under that circumstance. That's the biggest driving difference to me that seems odd to me. The chirping, the locking and unlocking are no big deal, imo.
