Post subject:  lifting beyond 2 1/2"

I have the skyjacker 2 1/2' lift but I am still getting rubbing in tight turns and especially off road. I am
guaranteed to tear off fenders while off road which is very frustrating . I am running 265 75 16 ( 32 inch)
Trxux tires and I suppose the easiest solution is to drop a tire size. I would prefer to go up another inch or
so to get the clearance I need . I'm thinking about trying a one inch spacer for that little extra but wanted to
check if others have gone there and what were the results ??

Didn't know there was a 3 1/2 lift out there, most stop at 2 1/2 to keep all the mechanical parts happy. What wheels are you using? This could be part of your problem. There are some others running 265s but they also usually remove much of the fender liners or take them out all together.

It was a 2 1/2" lift and I have edited the message to reflect this. Sorry about that .

I am using M/T Classic rims as used by others on the forum and whom all claim to have a little rubbing only.
I did remove the pinch weld up front as well as part of the fender as required already. The rubbing I can deal with
but tearing off the fenders is a pain .

How do your CV angles look? Any ball joint to spring contact?

Looking at those will give you an idea of how much you can conceivably add, and give you an idea of what problems you'll find if you do. I personally think tires rubbing on the fenders is a much less serious problem than an extreme CV angle or balljoint contact. You may find you can lift a LITTLE more before you run into problems. You should be able to lift the rear quite a bit more before you run into trouble

Which fenders are getting rubbed? Ive only heard of a couple people running a tire that size without major rubbing. 265/70/16 is the size alot of people run.

If its the rear fenders then you could get some extended bumpstops to help keep the fenders on.

My cv angles are almost perfectly straight though the left has a slightly noticeable angle . There is no ball joint to
spring contact that I can see . I'm measuring 15 1/2 height to the bottom of the front fender and 16 1/2 to the bottom
of the rear fender so she has sagged slightly on the front or the ARB and winch weight is causing the sag . Oh and I found
that one of my NEW Skyjacker shocks is leaking...............great. Well at least I can have it ready to change with the addition of a new spring spacer. Im thinking maybe just a 1 inch spacer for the front might suffice and a taller bump stop for the rear..........................maybe?

Both off the rear fenders are rubbing at the forward or door section of the fender . Both have been off and are just pressed back into place . I won't rivet them permanently until I have solved the issue .

It's funny you say that you know of few that don't have major rubbing with this size of tire whereas when I questioned the
forum the members responded saying they had little rubbing issues . If I had know the truth I would have purchased a
smaller tire for sure .

If it is rubbing the front edge of the rear fender flairs, you could get adjustable rear lower control arms and recenter the rear axle...then check the pinion angle so you don't get any weird vibrations.

Adjustable rear lower control arms are available aftermarket ?

With a 2.5in lift, your cvs' should not be level. You must have a bit of saggin b/c my 1.5in OME lift makes the cv's point down some.

Many people have their own opinions about things on their jeep. They may not rub that bad just driving around town, but they may not know it will rub when flexing.

I think you may find that the folks on here running 265s are running Revos and other AT tires. The Trxus must rub like crazy... What is the backspacing on those Mickeys?

I would hesitate to recommend that lift to anybody until it's tested. There's still not one review from anybody who has even seen it on a liberty, let alone tested its durability and on/offroad performance.

32" tires rub like mad, and you have to cut stuff to make them fit. I don't know who told you otherwise, but they should stop telling people that a 265/75R16 will just "fit". It CAN fit, but you really have to be willing to put up with a lot of rubbing or trimming.

I agree. That lift just don't look right. To go 3.5" you are going to need some new upper control arms to function properly. Plus no new springs or struts in the front and they are still asking 940. Just a longer bottom strut fork in the front is not going to work well either. Essentially the same idea as the OTT lift.

If you want to go as high as safely possibly, your best to stick with the Frankenlift and some new upper A-arms from JeepinAl. The Frankenlift typically results in 3+" for alot of people anyway, since KJs sit so low from the factory.

it was just an option, i wasn't sure if anyone was running it or not!! i know jeepinal said he was running the front of that lift, but he has also done alot of fab work to his kj, so whatever.

as for the rubbing, take out the inner wheel well and relocate the water res. theres a link about this somewhere

Superlift is suppose to release their 4" lift next year. If your CV angles are straight and you dont have UBJC, I would think a 1/2"-1" spacer would work. Try this out: Rustys 3/4" spacer

Robert,
The ARB and winch are beating your front end to death, and if the rims are 16X8 w/4-4 1/2" B.S. that's probably your flare problem.

I know first hand what you're going through, as I have the same basic setup with the 32" TrXus, ARB and winch, however, I've got a RRO Combo spacer lift.

I Went through the stock front springs and struts the first year with just the ARB on. The next year I added the winch, Rusty's H.D. front springs and Rancho's. Now in the 3rd. year I'm using CRD front springs, new Rancho's with a 1/2" clevis and a high homemade lower bumpstop in the rear with an extra upper spring isolator and rear swaybar removed.

We'll have to wait and see how the CRD springs hold up, and I also need to get some synthetic winch line to take some weight out of the front end.

I'm using the stock 7" rims and have yet to rip a flare off in 2 1/2 years. Yes, the 32's do stuff with my setup and I don't mall crawl! I still get rubbing on the swaybar like everyone else though and some rub on the front of the rear door area when stuffed.

I'm running 31"x10.5"x15" with 3.75" inches of backspacing. Front? No rubbing anywhere, O.K., O.K., I've got a touch backing up while turning. but I did remove the fender liners all together and then painted with sound deadener/undercoating from Autozone(stole that idea from UVALAX).

Back? I'm all in the fender flares, at one point I was chewing up my tires like crazy. Now, I've added a 1/2" spacer in the rear which almost alleviated all the rubbing. I'll be adding another 1/2" spacer tomorrow and will let you know how that works out on Monday. Also added the Rubicon Express 3715 lower control arms to push it back a bit which helped get it off the back of the door. I also opened the back door and rolled that sharp edge of the fender up, which helped tremoundously with the cutting of my tires. Andy at Carolina Rock Shop is building me a new upper link that utilizes Rubicon Express builder balls and a bunch of custom fabbed unobtanium parts. Hopefully it all works.

I added a 2.5 inch lift to a pre lowered 2001 so I guess the total lift was only really 1.5 . Because I have a
ARB bumper with a Warn 8000lb winch I guess that and time have caused the front to sag an inch or so .
Honestly, the CV axel is almost perfetly straight ,so that being said, a 1 inch spacer is going in for sure .

I do think the front is already sagging an inch or so and I notice a serious leak on the shock provided by Skyjacker that I installed this summer . Personally I feel the Skyjacker is tight enough but probably not tall enough to compensate for the
weight of the ARB and winch . I wonder if adding an air bag for adjustment could work? Has anyone out there tried this ???

So do you use a spacer with the stock CDR front spring and what did you use in the back for coils and shocks?
Did you use a spacer with the stock wheels and what is the handling like without the rear swaybar ?
