Hello everyone.

I have recently heard that some of the ball joints are backing out of the arms. I had put a new set on my KJ and it happen to me. It appears that the new ball joints are so stiff when you make a left(?) the ball joint will loosen, so instead of the joint moving, the entire unit unscrewws. This will go away once the joint breaks in.

In the mean time, please keep an eye on the ball joints, and to make me and you feel better take to a local garage and get the guy to tack the ball joint to the arm. A simple tack will not hurt the removability of the joint if you need to replace it. You need to just file off the weld.

The arms I have sent out this week the ball joint are really tight, and I have tacked them. I go through about two tubes of red lock-tite every five sets of arms now. This should keep them from unscrewing.

Also there was a question on the fitment of the boot. The boots fit as they did from the original cars they are off of. Just keep them well greased and any dirt or water that may collect around the top of the boot will not be able to get into the joint. Please follow the notes on your receipts. Grease the joints after every trail ride, and at every oil change, and they will out last the KJ.

Right now I am trying to figure out how to get the grease fittings relocated, so when the top contacts the bump stop, it doesn't rip out. Ted had the best solution, please read the tech articles for the install. He notched the middle of the bump stop to clear the grease fitting.

Any other questions please PM me or post them here.

This has been a public service announcement brought to you by that crazy Jeep owner.........

Al

PS Thanks to all for your purchases and support.
Also, if you plan to buy some arms in the future, I am having trouble..again with my supplier. I have looked into getting them manufactured else where. Please bear with me, anyone who sent me money, I will get you a set of arms soon. I have been about 2-weeks behind. I really do appreciate your patience!

What about a Castle Nut with a small hole drilled in the threaded end...they Safety Wire or Cotter Pin could be added.

The ball joint assy itself is what is backing out of the threaded part of the arm where it seats. There is already a castle nut/cotter pin on the ball joint stem. I will be tacking my wifes this week and Ed V's soon as he experienced the above failure. I was not thrilled w/ the boot fitment but Al is right, keep them full of grease and they will be fine. These are Real beefy ball joints and they should outlast the rest of the suspension if maintained and watched. After mine are broken in they will be part of a 3 month routine service and inspection I perform on my vehicles, right now I am checking them weekly.

Al the arms you sent me are great a solid week of wheeling and one road trip later they are still in place and working fine. Since mine have loosened up ok, I wont need to weld them but if anyone in Las Vegas needs to tack weld them I would be willing to offer my services free of charge.

Hey Al,

I just installed the new A arms today. The install wasn't too terrible and I think it improved my aligment but when I looked a little closer at the wheels I noticed the the tops of the tires are sticking out further then the low portion of the tire. Any reason why that is, sounds like reverse camber or something?

Your arms seem to be pushing it out too far.

You need to get an alignment after making any changes to your front suspension. My wheels are better aligned now, with the new A-arms than they were with the stock ones.

I checked with a level a fews hours ago and again just a minute ago. It is actually getting better, I think it is because those ball joints are so stiff. I am going to check again in the morning, it should be even closer to centered.
