Another thread motivated me to post this... About 2 weeks after I installed my hitch wiring, I went to Rausch Creek and must have railed it off a rock or something. The ground pin (the exposed one) was completely sheared off and the other 3 were all mashed and unusable. Instead of buying a whole new t-connector for $30, I cut off the damaged plug got a trailer plug for $2 from a local automotive store and soldered it in place. I also got this wonderful thing from etrailer.com that will make sure it never happens again. Etrailer.com part # 30601
I drilled a 1 1/8" hole at the very bottom of the rear bumper just above the hitch receiver. The trailer plug from the t-connector goes into one side and the other is up against the bumper so a trailer can be plugged into it. If anything is able to hit and damage that, then my whole bumper, hitch, and gas skid will have been ripped off. It's nothing super, but for $5 it makes the trailer wiring look nice and clean and out of the way. |

I bought a hitch plug from etrailer when I got my hitch. It has a place in the top of the plug to hold the connector up and out of the way. works purty good. |
