Post subject:  KJ+ARB+WARN Winch+Skyjacker= Problem......HELP!!

Problem is after 3 months the fron is sagging and one of the struts is blown out the oil, the tires are rubbing too much
and tearing off the fenders.

Part of the problem is the MT Classic lock wheels which have two more inches of backspacing than the originals and I'm running 32" Trxux 265 75 16 M/T tires .

The rears are rubbing the door fenders off and to solve this Jeepinal suggested to but adjustable lower control arm to push the wheel back 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch. I have ordered this and will try when the part arrives.

For the front it was suggested to buy CRD front springs and add a Daystar spacer . I was also told to get rid of my wheels
which are too wide, but...................... ouch, they cost too much to part with . Others are running the same wheel, and yes
with less tire, but again others are running the same tire and wheel combo without a problem, I guess they have enough
lift for the clearance .

Suggestions please ?

Robert

I don't think the Skyjackers were ever meant to be used with an ARB & winch. The springs are way to soft for that, they were made to flex. I beleive the only front springs made to handle the ARB & winch are the OME's #948, but they only give a 1.5" lift by themselfs. Or 2.5" in the Frankinlift.

I'm running a 2" spacer lift with 16x8 Rubi's (5.0" bs) and 245/75r16's and I get some mild rubbing without an ARB or winch.

The wheels are one of the problems, they have 2" LESS backspace than stock (not more) it pushes the tires too far outward.

Looks like 99% of your problems are from your wheels...you might like them...they might of cost a bit...but bottom line...THEY ARE TOO BIG!
(meaning the backspacing)...You have to get rid of them.

Heck, with 4.5" of backspacing I was pushing the limit with my old 2002 KJ. I trimmed the metal around the rear wheelwells with a dremmel (about 3/4 inch) and removed everything up front/rear and installed some Trailready Front and Rear bumpers. I also used a spacer up front for the added weight of the bumper and winch. Have you done a clevis lift to get any of the front lift back?

True dat!! I have the same issue with my rims. Adj control arms in back will help. If you are dead set on keeping your wheels you might consider extending the rear bumpstop. This will limit your flex some but will eliminate the rear rub at full stuff. I have the same width issue but I like the wider stance and am willing to sacrifice a little flex for added lateral stability.

Back in the old days they shipped the first pair to me when L.O.S.T. was just a baby. They only made 4-5 sets and then quit. They are making them again now from what I hear...another member here has been talking to them and is placing an order. Traded "The Goat" in for a 2006 CRD.

The skyjackersprings are the "softride" springs and cannot handle alot of wieght,I'm lucky I got one of the first skyjacker lifts without the "softride" coils.Mine are holding up my arb w/winch and I'm also running 265/75's but only with 4.25" of backspacing,no rub at all.

You could try to drop some load up front by going to synth line and aluminum hawse fairlead. Getting rid of the rollers and cable should help some.

As mentioned the clevis lift could get some height back up front.

You could also get some springs made for the front.

Since you need struts then why not give these a try first-

Then after that go for wheels.

TJKJ,

Do you know if the SJ front coils will fit on standard struts, or only SJ struts?

I'm starting to have an idea... can you see the smoke yet :-)r

They will not because one side of the front coils is flat, but if you cut off about 3" off that side and use another factory spring isolator(this will net you and extra 1/2" of lift) you can use rancho or ome struts.I did this myself recently with rancho struts and no problems yet, sorry no pics I have limited internet so I can't post new pics for awhile.
