Post subject:  Noisy rear shocks? It's driving me crazy!

I have a Rockfather I setup, with Doestch Tech 3000 shocks in the back. Ever since they were installed, I hear a rattling coming from the passenger side, rear wheel wheel area. It's hard to tell, but I think it's the shock mount rattling around. Anyone else have that problem? Is there a way to fix it or should I get a different shock?

Thanks

Check the bolt going through the top, it usually needs to be tightened down. I swore I had tightened mine down, but I was getting a bumping sound. I tightened it down more and it went away.

A couple people have also put some washers in the shock mount as well.

Good luck!

I think Calvin is right sdeuel. When I torqued mine down to the specs in my install instructions, the tabs the shock mount goes between actually bent in to meet it a little. I've had no noise at all. I've also heard of people shimming with washers to prevent the shock from sliding back and forth on the bolt.

So you think it's the back and forth motion of the shock mount, not up and down? By putting washers on the side of the mount I could see where it would help if the side-to-side motion was a problem - is it possible it's an up-down motion?

It could be either. If its not tight side-to-side then it will make noise when the shock goes up and down...

Dont know if this helps cause I have the RSX17004 rear shocks but I used 4 washers for the top on each side to eliminate any squeaking and movement.

I have seen some of the aftermarket shocks that the upper bushing is for a 12mm or 14mm bolt. I beleave the KJ's is only 10mm, that will make some noise.

Yep jsut place a couple washers up in there for some shims. I had the same problem with the rustys shocks. I didnt want to over torque the bolt down and bend the shock mounts in so I added a couple washers and problem solved.

That is what I found too, I just put some shim stock around the bolt to take up the slack. I will try to post a pic. I took a Chevy starter shim and cut a piece off, hammered it around the bolt and then slid it together. Worked perfect. The shock knock is definately from the up down movement not side to side. I did use a few washers on the side too first but the shimmed bolt actually fixed the noise.

.......Knock,knock'a,knock'a knock.rattle, knocka, knock.............. gets old huh.......[/b]

LOL!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a bucket of sockets bouncing and rolling around doesn't it?

I nearly struck my friend in the forehead with a meat cleaver because it was driving me so crayZ.

But yeah its been cured, either add washers or tighten down a LOT. Personally I prefer the latter.
