I have a lot of dry packed mud in my engine skid. I have tryed pulling a it out but have had no luck. I have also tryed to unbolt it but can't get the bolts to budge. Any recomednations on what I should do. The skids are factory stock.

Thanks

I dont have my skids yet (hopefull this week), but I'm assuming that the bolts are regular and not anything like Torx or that kinda thing. In which case, my best advice would be to find someone who has an impact wrench to get it off.

What is an impact wrench?

Its a pneumatic wrench that is powered by an air compressor. Youll see them getting used in shops and stuff. I'm looking for an example online right now to show you give me a second and I'll post it.

I'm assuming you dont have a big air compressor, so I wouldnt recommend getting one right this second unless you've got some money burning a hole in your pocket.

to get the mud out of the skid I would put the hose from your house in the skid from the front and turn it on full open
let it get good and wet and keep working on it until it all comes out

I would not try to get the bolts out with out puting some kind of penitrating oil on the threads and letting it sit then put some more and still more
if you try to force them out you may break them or mess up the nut zert things that hold the skid on

I will be working on a fix for the "shovel" on mine and I will post pix but that won't be until maby next year

Can I ask how you got mud in there???

I'd suggest a pressure washer if you have one around...seems to work good on hard clay that hardens on things. We use simple green and a pressure washer to get the hard stuff off our motocross bikes.

Find some reason to take it to the dealership to have some kind of work done on it. They clean it out for ya for free. Then they exagerate on how much mud they removed. One time the told me it filled a 20 gallon drum.

Are you sure they were exagerateing?

My electric impact & 18v nut driver are my best friends when working on Jeeps :D .

After spraying the underside with a hose to get as much out as possible I just get under there with a trowl (like you would use in a garden) and that usually gets it all out. Seems like the front skid is a mud scoop.

Jeep even has its own electric impact wrench. Check out their catalog. Not sure if it is on the online catalog.

I have tryed to get it with a power washer but no luck. Most of it is packed under the front differantal. I have had it to the dealership twice since and they have not done anything about it.

Thanks for all the replies

Turn the sprinler on and park on top of it. Let it "soak" for a while. That should loosen some of that mud up. Thanks to Jason Thompson for that tip. It works well.

Yea, the'll do it for you...but they charged me 50 bucks for it. After they had already done it so I couldn't say NO to them...

The mud is actually a great benefit.......it soaks up any spilled oil when the service department changes your oil.
