Has anyone had problems installing a Truetrac in the front end? My installer is saying that the bolt holes for the ring gears are too big and will result in slack...eventually shearing off the bolts. Has anybody else experienced this and what did you do? He is saying I would need some sleeves or something to take up the extra room. |

Nevermind - this is a known issue. In 2001 they started using larger bolts on the regular dana 30. TT decided that they wouldn't bother making two versions and that they would just go with the larger size holes...the guy at Detroit basically said that the difference in size was acceptable because it is the torque that pins the ring to the diff. Looking at the difference in size I'm not comfortable with that answer...nor was my mechanic. In fact, Randy's Ring and Pinion stocks sleeves for this very issue...good to know in case you're installing one of the newer TTs in the future. Crisis averted. |

Thats good info for anyone planning to install one. We should move this to the tech section so it can be easily found by anyone undertaking an install. |

Dang good info to know. Surprised they are selling them w/out sleeves when they know of the problem and could fix it. |

Brent, from Detroit Locker, says that their engineers decided that there shouldn't be a problem...I'm not taking any chances though. |

I'll contact the installer and get those numbers for you. BTW, I was wrong...he ended up getting them from the local 4-Wheel Parts in town here. Edit: 4 Wheel Parts buys these sleeves from Randy's Ring and Pinion. The only thing on the bag is "RPS SP Rubicon Ring and Pinion Service" No part number. SO I guess you'd just call 4 Wheel Parts and explain the situation and hopefully they know where to point you. Sorry I can't be more specific that that. |

Sorry I forgot about the spacers Skyjump136 when I last talked to you, when I got my TT from 4WHEELPARTS they automatically ordered them for me(and not tell me,oh well it was for the best). The 4WHEELPARTS in Tacoma WA did say they have done a few in KJ's and I didn't think anything about it until you brought it up so I had to look at my reciepts and I do have them to. |

FWIW I've got 30K miles on my front truetrac with no problems. I wouldn't worry about it as much as I would cracking the aluminum it's packed in... |
