| Post subject: | Tow Hooks W/ Brush Guard |
So, I have the Westin brush guard on my Liberty. I love how it looks and I'm planning on mounting lights on it. However, it is by no means an ARB and the lack of recovery points on the front concerns me. Do you all think I could get some welded on there right at where the guard attaches to the frame. I also though about drilling some holes in it, but the preferred tow straps are loops, not hooks, so that wouldn't really work. I would really prefer not to get rid of it becuase of the looks and the $$$ loss that would entail (bought it before realizing what I wanted to do with the KJ). |

Not sure how the Westin mounts but I have the Mopar Brush Guard. I finally got under there the other day and saw that it mounts to where the tow hooks used to mount (hence, they removed the tow hooks when they installed the guard). I removed my tow hooks from the mounting plate that they attach to, which was removed as a unit with the hooks attached, and then took the hook itself and mounted it to a straight length of flat steel stock with 2 nuts/bolts. Then I drilled two more holes in the stock and mounted that to the bolts which extend down through the mounts for the brush guard (where the hooks used to mount to) and I now have my hooks remounted. Basically I just extended the hooks forward about 3-4 inches from where they were. The length of stock I used is just long enough so that the back of the hook is just in front of the front bolt from it's previous mounting position. This ensures that the mounting will take the stress of a tug without shearing. Plus it looks good! I'm in the assy phase now so no pics yet. This may only work for those with the Mopar brush guard. I just thought I'd throw it in here in case the Westin had a similar mount. |

If you want to drill some holes, chances are you can get them drilled and install some nice D-ring shackles - that way you can use looped or hooked tow straps. If the hole is close enough to where the grill guard mounts to the frame, the leverage will be negligable. Not as good as a tow hook directly, of course, but it should be ok. |

Since it sounds like each guard mounts differently, i get the assembly instructions on here to show you. I'll scan them in when I get home from work. Thanks for the feedback though guys. |
