Post subject:  Detroit eLocker for our KJ's

I sent an email to Detroit Locker to see if they were planning support of either Dana 30a or the Chrysler 8.25, got back this response:

"We appreciate your interest in our products.
The Dana 30 ELocker will be released at SEMA. We expect products to be
available in February 2007. The 8.25" ELocker is still in doubt as we
get few requests for it. "

Sounds like we need to let them know we are interested...

By the sounds of his reply, he's talking about the regular D30, not the D30a............

That D30 should still work though. As for the 8.25, they told me within the last month that plans are to release an e-locker sometime in late 2007 / early 2008. That's a long time to wait so I just went with the ARB.

OK, I tried to do all the work for you, but the BBS isn't going for it. you'll just have to type your own message... :(

I just recieved this response from Eaton:

We appreciate your interest in our products.
Since our Dana 30 Truetrac is being installed frequently in the Liberty
front end there is no reason to think that the ELocker won't fit. The
Dana 30 ELocker model will fit 3.73 and up gearing. Our greatest
concern with the Libby front end is the inherent weakness of the
aluminum housing. We've seen many failed housings on the Liberty. The
failures increase whenever a traction adder is installed. This should
definitely be considered before installing any traction adder to your
front end.

I'd guess that people that put a LSD or locker up front tend to use their vehicles offroad much more than someone who leaves it open (as far as the general population is concerned). The off roading probably results in more failures than the differential itself. In fact, if a "traction adder" slows down or stops that wild spinning of the front wheels the chances of failure should actually be less (at least when compared to someone who off roads, but does it open). Just my .02 cents.

We appreciate your interest in our products.
The Dana 30 ELocker for 3.73 and up gearing will be available in February of 2007. We will be showing the unit at SEMA in November. Their are no current plans for the 8.25" Chrysler ELocker although it will probably be built at some point. Although we've been getting a few recent requests based on the L.O.S.T. forum, requests from other users has been nearly non-existent. While admittedly there are many of these rearends on the road, relatively few of these vehicles are modified to the point where a selectable is required. The number of rigs modified to this point will increase as these vehicles get older.

THAT PISSES ME OFF!

Detroit/Eaton blows! I'll never buy from them with that attitude. ARB went out of their way to make one for the 8.25 a long time ago and Detroit currently makes other lockers/trac locs for it so why not the elocker?

Looks like my money will go to ARB! When I can afford it.

Also, he never replied back to my email.

Ask people why they buy vehicles for off-roading and I'll bet it comes down to the amount of aftermarket products for that vehicle....if it is a close decision to make. If you build it, they will come. Make the aftermarket products, get a few people out there using them and let word of mouth take over.
