Brown Santa showed up yesterday, so now I'm planning for a weekend of wrenching on my new toy. Any helpful advise with regards to assembling the front strut/stock CRD springs/Daystar parts assembly? I know I need to pick up a spring compressor to help put everything together but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for me.....

Thanks!

Chris

You should make a post in the Northwest section and see if you can get a lift party going on.

Be very careful when disassembling the stock strut assembly, there's a lot of force being contained by that top bolt. We put the Daystar lift on MudTrac's CRD down here in Florida, and we took the struts apart ourselves. He wrapped a spare piece of heavy carpet around the assembly, and used a long socket extension. This helps prevent the spring from unloading the different parts everywhere (including right at you).

I would highly recommend not wasting time pressing out the old upper strut plate studs and pressing them back into the new upper strut plate. Much easier (although about $10 more) to get to the auto parts store, buy some M12x1.75 wheel studs, then hit the hardware store and get some washers, lock washers, and nuts for an M12 bolt. Some auto stores can even press the studs in for you, or you can just use a deep socket and a shop vice if handy and do it yourself. Be sure to keep the strut plate lined up with the clevis correctly during assembly.

When are you planning to install this? I'm going to Order a frankenlift this week or next, and then take a week off to work on it and a few other things. I wouldn't be against going down to Oregon for a Lift install party =)
