Hi, I just bought a brand new KJ, and this is my first 4X4 truck, that means am new in these topics about off-roading. In this sense , I would like to know if it's possible to tow a small trailer in 4 Hi or 4Lo mode. This question is because I used to own a turbo charged car, and towing is a "must not do" of these kind of cars. Thank you for your comments. Bye |

Like this??
Or are you talking about just towing accross the highway? Liberties come with a decent towing capacity- around 5,000 lbs. Not sure if the transfer case you have will make any difference, but several people around here should know! |

Hi Calvin, Thanks, that is what I was looking for, to tow off-road. Surveying through the Internet I found information that in fact there is no problem towing in 4hi or 4Low mode. Unfortunately in such information didn't mention KJs. Can anyone confirm this info for KJs? Thanks Cheers |

There are some members in LOST KJ West clubs that have the adventure trailers. If you have a question and need official statement, e-mail DC. |

Carlos, your KJ can tow up to its load limit (and more) in any mode. There are guys in this group that have towed a 5000 lbs trailer across rough terrain in 4hi and 4lo. It doesn't matter. You just have to be smart about what you are doing (ie: don't try to tow 5000lbs up a 4' ledge with the brakes locked). I hope this helps to answer your questions. Feel free to ask more if you have any. |

If you plan to tow offroad I'd highly suggest a trailer with electric brakes, as you don't want the trailer pushing or pulling you. |

The Liberty is rated to 5000# with an automatic transmission and 3500# with the manual. If using 4wd, just make sure the surface you are driving on is not dry pavement, be kind to your differentials |

Also if you read the owners manual it also tells you some other things you may need when towing. Oh I forgot it also comes with the off road package, it's the same thing, less the hitch. |
