| Post subject: | need HELP with a daystar 2.5" lift on CRD |
i could really use some help .. ok a lot of help. i'm 90% done with my daystar install. and F-en thinging wont go in. i did the rear last night and it was a breeze ( with the help of a spring compressor ). here is what i have done on the front. went to a local tire shop and had them install the new top plate and bottom spacer. that was the easy part. i have almost got the strut back in but it just will not fit. righty now i have ther break calipor off, disconnected the sway bar, the steering rod is disconnect, and the lower a-arm moved out (by loosening it and rotating the nut/washer). no matter how i try to get the strut tower in in about 1/2" short. i have tried pushing the u-shaped brached on the bottom of the stut and also connecting it to the lower a-arm and trying to mate the two in the middle. it seems like the back of the spring is coming in contact with the body/sheet metal behind the strut tower. am i doing something wrong ... did i miss something. i really need to get this to work. my wife is already pissed i'm doing it and it doesnt work and i'm stuck with the lift not installed she will kill me. ok she wont kill me wow will she be really pissed. any help that anyone can give me will be great. i live near castle rock colorado and will take any help i can get. over the phone, net, or in person. thanks ted ps. i like the new site |

Hey Ted, First thing is lossen the top bolts on the new top plate. They should be way loose. The lower ball joint should also be broke apart. use a long pry bar between the clevis fork and turn the clevis while pushing down on the lower control arm until you can get a screwdriver or long punch in the clevis and mounting point. once you have done this. use the long pry bar again to turn the clevis fork the other way and then you will be able to get a bolt started. do not take the lower control arm off. No need to do that at all. once the clevis arms are close you can use a pry bar between the clevis ends and the mounting tab for the sway bar mounting point to pry up the clevis to line up for the bolt. Hope that helps. If needed...drop me an email with your phone4 number or I will give you mine and we can deal with it on the phone. Later...Clint |

Listen to Clint, he was very helpful to me when I was installing my Frankenlift. The only thing I would add would be to use a tapered pin punch to get the clevis bolt started. It seems like you will never get the thing back together and suddenly there it is. |

Well, have you figured it out yet? If you need help, I could give ya a hand tomorrow. I am down at the Academy. I most likely have the tools if you don't. I have torn my front end apart a lot... (waiting for more parts to do it again)another thing that might help is to use a long persuasion bar (I used the handle from my floor jack) Anyway, If you need help tomorrow, send me a message and I will give ya a call or you can call me. i only have 6500 miles on my crd so i used the factory shocks and struts. i have not topped anything out yet. and i have a pretty good bounce coming out of my driveway. after having the whole darn thing apart i almost wish i had replaced the front struts but just couldnt see spending the me coin at this time. with my wife back in school the check book is getting a little tight. |

To your question about the 3.5" lift on the CRD. I think that was mine. I measured 2" of lift at the axle in the rear and about 3.5" in the front. Let me know how much yours was. This was with the Daystar 2.5 lift. Trying to understand if I measured wrong to start with or if it really did give more lift than was planned. |

I never changed mine (since I didn't have them) and it doesn't seem to be an issue. No noise or anything. You might not have to change them...but, if I would've had them, I would've install them...just in case Dave |
