Post subject:  About to purchase KJ!!

I've been lurking on these forums for a few weeks. Long story short: Getting rid of car (1993 dodge stealth awd twin turbo) for something more useful and practical. It needs to be at least as competent off-road stock than my old truck (1997 v8 dodge dakota) was, and have room for everything. The Liberty meets all criteria. I was skeptical at first, but then my dad bought my mom a 2006 CRD sport. I love it. And now I have my eye on an 06 liberty sport V6 Command Trac 4wd 6spd tranny inferno red...56 miles...$19k. Im almost certain that I am going to get this jeep.

Got a few questions for y'all... First off I live in a muddy/snowy climate. I dont need so much articulation as i do ground clearance...but i certainly dont want just a cosmetic lift. Is the Rocky Road 2.5" budget spacer system a good way to go? I want to fit 265/75/16 tires...or maybe something more realistic. I have a small budget right now. Can 245/75/16 fit with stock 2006 suspension height?

oh come on. two of you have looked at my post. this will be my first jeep and I want some input from the most experienced people for this vehicle. will the over the top spring spacer really ruin my struts? Its not just for look, i need to be able to thrash this jeep offroad and have it bring me back...which im sure it will, but any accounts from any former novice KJ owners would be sooo helpful. I know how to read and choose a line....im not a total newb.. just new to this platform

Well since your looking for a reply...

The KJ's are great in the winter, hands down. Especially if you are going 4wd. So the whole lift issue won't be something you NEED until you are ready to really throw down some money.

so is there something inherently WRONG or harmful with going with a spacer lift? If it isn't too bad of a thing, I could get a spacer lift and new tires for the time being and then later upgrade to a real spring lift when I can afford it. I don't mean to be a non-contributor asking questions that I could find the answers to by searching...Just can't afford to make any costly mistakes and I really appreciate your expert help! Thanks all.

Welcome to lost!

Just give us some time 30 minutes isnt much. especially at 4 am

It seems I have read good stuff about the Rev-Tek spacer lift, probably want to stay away from the OTT over the top (of the strut that is) type of lifts because they can ruin your struts. But even those can work if done right.

Hang in there others will be through to share some experiences.

While you are waiting get some pics of that CRD, and some spy shots of your future ride up here.

Burchie may be right, I always click on the "view posts since last visit" link so I will notice posts just about anywhere, but not everyone does.

I suppose I could be, or perhaps me and the spam guy just share the same sentiments about spam, you decide

Welcome to LOST! That sounds like a good price for the truck you're shopping. I'd say snatch that bad boy up! I wish I had that 6 speed tranny!

Yes, share some picts of your Mom's CRD and get her some LOST stickers!

I like my Daystar Spacer lift. It's no Frankenlift, but if it ruins my struts then I'll buy new ones. :-) If it's what you can afford, I say get the lift you like.

You'll LOVE the KJ in the snow!! I loved it even with the crappy SR-A's. I can't wait to test out the new meats (both sets of em!) this winter!!

I definitely have to recommend the Rusty's coil lift. I threw one on a couple of weeks ago and love it!

Hope this helps!
