depends - some models come pre-wired - some don't - if it is not pre-wired then you have to go with an aftermarket remote.
how to tell? - take it to dealer - they only need to open hood and see if it is pre-wired - where? beats me...

Just go to your local Circuit City and get a remote starter. If you've got a plain jeep key (black w/no chip) you can get a basic remote start installed for $130. Guerenteed for the life of your vehicle and wont void any warrenty

Oops I meant to post this in General not 4x4... Mods feel free to move this.

I'm torn on the aftermarket remote starters. My girl friend has one and it works great. My mother's is a nightmare. She has had nothing but crazy electrical gremlins since it was installed. I also have a friend that has an aftermarket unit on her Escape. She also has crazy electrical gremlins (sunroof opens on it's own, windows stop working, etc).

I think some aftermarket units work well and some don't. I also think that some of the installers are excellent and some hack your wire harness and really screw it up. I know the aftermarket units require the installer to be very knowledgeable to peice it all together. They are so universal that the installer has to wire resistors, coils and sometimes relays into the circuits depending on the particular car. So if you get an inexperienced installed they can really screw it up bad. That's why if the Mopar plug and play unit worked on my '03, I'd prefer to get it.

I also have the grey (immobilizer) key, so I'd also have to buy a bypass unit as well with an aftermarket unit.

www.jparts.com lists a remote starter for the 04 and one for the 05 thru 07 but nothing for the 03. You might send them a e-mail to see.

Just a quick $.02. When I used to install, the Prestige APS series remote starts were pretty darn slick, and reliable. I've been meaning to get around to throwing one on the KJ someday.

There is no Mopar Remote Start System for the earlier models and the vehicle will not be prewired for it.
