Ok, I really want to get the 245/75/16 tires put on my Jeep and my BFGs are about dead. I would rather not pound down the pinch weld, just becuase of the principle. If I put the Rubicon wheels on, or similar with the same backspacing, would the tires fit without rubbing, or am I gonna have to suck it up and pound it down?

I think it really varies from KJ to KJ. I have a 2003 Sport w/Frankenlift, Rubi's and MTR's. The distance from the ground to the horizontal pinch weld is 17-9/16". My tires do not rub on vertical pinch weld. Turning hard in reverse, I rub just slightly on the fog light access doors.

Suck it up and POUND THAT PINCH...POUND THAT PINCH! I know how you feel. I felt the exact same way. It can be done in a way that you will not even notice it and no harm will come of it (based on past experiences of KJ owners who did this some time ago). Just take your time and finish it clean. There a several write ups on it. Sorry I don't have time to post the links right now but you should be able to find them. Good luck and we're here if you run into any trouble.

Just kidding.... here's one of the cleanest I've seen.
