Post subject:  Locker

Okay, so I am breaking down and buying a locker for the rear of my Renny. I want a selectable locker so I have narrowed it to the Auburn ECTED Electric Locker or the ARB air locker. Now I am just having a hard time making the decision. The price of the Auburn is much less than an ARB and the compressor. Can someone sway me one way or the other?

On another note....I am ordering a Rock Lizard front bumper tomorrow....I want to get heavier duty springs(on the front) than the ones from my Rusty's lift. Any suggestions. I want to keep at least the same amount of lift or maybe a tiny bit more than I currently have.

Thanks Jeep peeps!

I'd look at some HD OME coil over springs and maybe a few conduit nuts with a clevis, depending on the bumper weight...

No it is not. No ECTED for the 8.25. I had long email discussions with them a couple months ago. They had no plans at that time, to do one for that diff.

ahh crap I read it wrong it is available for the 8.5...well in any case, you guys pointing that out makes it an easy choice for me.

Now the next question, do I need 27 spline or 29 for my 03KJ?

Muchas gracias.

27 or 29 ? Doesnt matter, the ARB is a complete carrier swap.

The rear is a 29 spine. ARB part number you are looking for is RD93.

as for the springs in the front, i have an ARB and Warn m8000 up front, And i switched to the stock springs from a CRD, about 65 bucks a piece from the dealership and i paired that with new rancho RSX struts for 51 bucks a piece. it rides much better on and off the high-way and made a big difference in lift as well.

I've gotta get a look at your KJ. Sounds badass!

But the axles would still be 29 spline.

not tha it matters, but the pinion is 27.. :)

FWIW, I had the ECTED on my B4000 (Ranger Clone), and loved it! What a sweet piece of machinery. I liked that it was a LSD fulltime, and fully locked when needed, as opposed to Open and Fully locked.

I thought the open rear diff was 27 and the rear diff with the Trac Lock was 29?

Open and LS use the same axles.

My memory due to old age is fading right now....Remind me:

I was told that with the trac lock you have to get the 29 spline for the ARB Locker but if you were open, you get the 27. Am I in error here?

I believe so. The 8.25 rear end has 29 spline axles. It has the same axles no matter if you have a locker, open diff, or a limited slip. The pinion gear IS 27 spline. I believe they stopped using 27 spline axles in the cherokees in 1997.. I may be wrong on that though. The Kj uses the same rear end that the xj did..

My libby was open before I put the powertrax locker in it.. My axles are 29 spline. So my power trax locker is for 29 spline axles. :)

The ECTED is the best locker.

If you have more than about 40K on the renny, you'll want to replace some other key gears, seals, and componets or you'll do it later. Depending upon your wear patterns, could need a new locker later too. (one will wear the other down)

Do it all. :?

If you don't want to do all that then try and digest a noslip.
