Ok, so I was watching the show "Truck Universe" on Speed TV and they were putting a lift on an IFS Chevy HD. They did a lot of cutting and replace the arms, driveshafts, and drivetrain to restore the suspension to original angles. I am pretty new to Jeeps (and cars in general actually), and I was wondering why this kind of thing can not be done to a Liberty IFS. Granted, it would cost more for the kit, but if it could be done, it would be worth it.

It can...the cost is one of the limiting factors. The other thing is that unless we replace the aD30 in the front, you are pretty much limited in gearing and tire size.

Just last week or so saw a new GC with the 4 inch lift. I could see where lots of things were changed underneath. Probably cost as much to install as to buy the lift if not more.

I agree.

I still think in cirtain situations, a long travel IFS with the right HD components will out wheel a SFA vehicle. The kind of IFS i'm talkin about is that of the Total Chaos variety. It would'nt be that hard to put in a centrally mounted D44I and have long and strong CV's. That kind of wheel travel is superior as you have a flat contact patch (hence more grip) than that of a SFA setup.

Man, I wish more people would take the KJ seriously and build something of that quality...

Those other trucks have separate and full frames, all Jeeps except for the Wranglers have uni-bodys. You can cheat full framed vehicles with spacers and get more lift without touching the suspension. I guess that the unibody sub-frame is not as solid as a real frame for mounting the drop brackets. Everything on the undercarriage sort of blends together too. If you look at the GC and XJ 4"+ lift kits, those even beef up the sub-frame quite a bit to mount the longer control arms.

Dixon Brothers make ifs lift kits for rangers that a better than sfa, they race everything they sell, and have a lot of sucess. However, thier kits a round 4,000.00, but thier pletty srong, long travel, with great articulation, but the cost is crazy. Unless your racing, it's really not worth it for the average Joe. As ifs are the wave of the future, technology will increase, but I dout the prices will come down much, because of all the parts involved.

I'd like to have a SFA KJ with a minor lift, maybe 3 or 4 inches. I'd really like to have front and rear lockers, not real worried about having humongus tires.
