Hey I was just on the Rockkrawler website lookin at lifts for a Grand Cherokee a friend of mine is thinking about buying. I went and checked out the Liberty area and theres some new kits I hadnt seen. I know the 7-Up was a failure, but I do think the company deserves some props for continuing to try to cater to KJ owners. Anyone heard anything about these kits?

EDIT: Could you run a 3" with the Jeepin Al's A-Arms to help with the CV angle?

We have seen them but have no straight answer from RockKrawler as to the CVJoint angles. I have called and the only thing they told me is that they put one on a Liberty and it looks good...the techs were gone for the day.

They also have a 3.5 Version but they also were not crystal clear as to what 3.0 and 3.5 means...is it inches of lift? They never really say for sure when you call. JeepinAl has the front strut extention incorporated in his own 7" lift.

I looked at the 3.5 and it mentioned that the rear swaybar needs to be removed in order to run that kit. I'm assuming that the 3.0 and the 3.5 is how much lift.

the only thing i don't understand when it lists everything that's in the kit, it doesn't say it include new springs or anything of the sort.....

It sounds like it is a spacer lift in the back actually. Does that require new springs? I wish they had the installation instructions online.

The only bad thing i see is that all the lifts for the liberty use spacers to some extent and dont give you the chance to run 33s or higher

The Rustys coil lift does not use any spacers but you can still only run 31s

I cant picture how those strut fork brackets mount up ?

Honestly 599 for a kit without springs or new struts seems quite high.

You could get Rusty's kit for 450 and that includes new springs, struts, and shocks. If a 1/2" is really that important due a clevis lift up front and an extra spring isolator in the rear.

Read this thread if you are interested in getting an extra .5-1" out of Rusty's kit.

I like the lift, I spent some time with the guys discussing the "old" lift and all the items that made that lift and the new one. The strut extension or new clevis is a breeze to install.

Any other questions that may come up let me know. If you want one of those bad boys I will be carrying them soon.

As for the CV joints, the later model Libertys say 2003.5 and up should not have much of a problem. Yes the will be at an odd angle, but not as bad as the earlier models. Why, I can't put my finger on it, but I think they lowered the entire diff system in the later models, I could be wrong.

Personally, I've heard great things about the Frankenlift and I think thats the route I'm going to go. I just posted this as a heads up and out of curiosity. I'm actually contemplating getting the Frankenlift installed over my Thanksgiving break. I'm just trying to get a hold of the shop right now as I'm gonna drive there to have them install it.

Currently there are two, (ok three one is mine) lifts out there that I would recommend. The first is the Frankenlift, the second is the new Rock Krawler. The others will all work fine, depending on what you want to do, and the cash on hand.

Each of the two "best" in my mind (can't leave out OME either) have perform well as designed. Can each be added too, yes made better, maybe, depends what you add. To the Franken lift I would add rear lower arms and a trilink to the top. The Rock Krawler I would add struts and springs and the tri link. However both of them are at the pinnincle for what they supply for the given price, one has been out much longer than the other, and has a great proven track record. The other is new and hasn't really proved itself yet. I haven't been able to break or bend the new clevis yet, and I am trying.

Please note this be the humble opinions of a ol' fart that bathed in too much transmission fluid, drank too much gas and ate too much grease over the past 30 years or so, and not necessarly that of the LOST board its members and spouses! :shock:

Hey Al, let me know if you want local test mules for BALLS. You have the A-Arms, steal the clevis idea, and finish your tri-link. Add that to my Frankenlift and I'll run her till something breaks for ya.

I have to say yes, opened a can of worms, Al, because I feel the Rusty's lift is up there as a great lift. It isn't the longest lift, but it has few issues and for the money, you can't beat it.

I have had mine for two years now and it is great. No problems and I have taken it to LOST Moab twice and I beat it up in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.


Rusty's 2.5" Coil Lift - Moab tested, Colorado Rockies proven. Nuff said.

Since this thread has mentioned this new lift and others, I have been wondering if these lifts give any suspension travel gains along with vehicle lift. If so, are they replacing the struts for the added travel?

I'm a little ignorant on the lift systems on the KJ, but am looking to do a lift in the future. I understand lifting for the sake of getting larger tires for additional clearance, but I have a lifted truck that gained suspension travel that really allows it to soak up some evil bumps and drops when running on trails.

It does not appear that these lifts will give any suspension travel gains, unless I'm missing something.

If you are using new coils and longer shocks for your lift, then yes, you will get a little more wheel travel. If you are using poly spacers or that Rockkrawler clevis fork then no, you won't get more travel. It will be the same amount of travel as stock just it won't be even up and down anymore. It will be less up travel but more down travel.

I placed an order today for the 3.5" Rock Krawler system to replace the 2" RevTek lift I'm currently running. I also ordered a set of Rancho struts and tomorrow I'll "try" to order a set of CRD coils from the dealership as well.

Perhaps a set of new rubber is in my future... :lol:
