Well I was wondering if the NV231 thats in the Liberty is the same or similer to the Cherokee one. I built a D300 for one of my XJ's that I never installed and was thinking about stabbing it in a KJ. http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p14/BonesBrosChris/ Here are the specs..... if anyone is interested Dana 300: -Down East Offroad Flip kit -TeraFlex 4:1 -Advanced Adapters H.D. 32 spine output -AtlasII shifters -and the |

It should fit,I know some poeple have swapped the rubicon tranfer into KJ.Of course new driveshafts will be needed. Those dana 300's are a pretty stout transfer! |

Man that 4:1 would be awesome. I dont believe I would like it unless i could switch between a higher low gear and the 4:1 though. The 2.73 gearing gets annoying when your out on the trail and it flattens out into a road, then goes back into rocks, then back into road.....well, you get the idea. Anyway, Ive been in some situations where a lower gear would off been really nice to help crawl over the rock and not give it so much gas.. The 231 should be the same x-case used in the xj's. like tjkj said, new driveshafts would be needed. |

In my opinion, that's kind of overkill for a KJ... I mean, think about it: You can put a candle in a cow pie, but that doesn't make it a birthday cake. |

If you have it just sitting around then I say go for it. It might be overkill (and who says that's a bad thing?!), but its not like you're going out and buying it. |

I really don't think it's overkill it's still a stock Jeep t-case. Overkill is STaK 3 speed. The case is actually smaller than a 231 with a SYE. This Dana 300 only cost about $1,400 to build, a lot less than an Atlas and few hundred more than a Teralow plus 2low conversion on the 231. Plus with the twin stick you get Two high, Four high, Four low, Two low and Two low front wheel drive. Drive line modifications are a given... but I might have to rebuild the floor tunnel and fab up a different cross member. And about the cow pie with a candle not being a cake.... I guess I really don't understand your reasoning for that. Its like last months JP rag's response to a guy asking for a Liberty solid axle story, and the response was very similar to that statement, something like if you put a suit on a girl it's still a girl, or something to that effect. I don't think it a waste or overkill to put a Dana 300 or ARB's or anything for that matter in a Liberty. As long as it says JEEP on it and it has a 2 speed t-case..... it's all good. I'm a XJ guy I always have been and just wanted to try something different in a different model. Will it work... don't know yet, one way or the other it will if it doesn't oh well I'll try again. And if I screw it up so bad I have to send it to the crusher..... I guess I'll go buy another XJ and go back to NAXJA. |

The swap shouldn't be that bad,the rear mount may be fun but shouldn't be to tough.New driveshafts and mount the shifters and a way you go! Having the twin stick with 4:1 will be very nice offroad. Can't wait till I save up enough $$ for a atlasII transfer myself. |

You can get your 231 or 242 regeared with a 4:1 ratio through Teraflex out of Salt Lake City, Utah. http://www.teraflx.com/pages/product_results.php Just type "242" into the search box. |
