I was looking at another members pics of his Surco basket installed

and it looks like the Surco I just got is designed differenty, it has like a track that these little nuts slide into that then the side panels mount to the cross bars using that. I don't think with this style I will be able to use the u bolt method to mount it. Has anyone figured out a way to do it? I havent got the rack onto the roof yet to line it up but I don't see how it will work

That’s how mine came to be installed. Now that you brought that photo up I Remember I didn't mention this. In the photo you showed. The U-bolt aligns directly under the side rail. I drilled the cross bar and the side rail so the U-bolt goes thru both. The U-bolts then replaces the slider cap thingy. That’s why I said get long bolts and cut to length. I only did this in the front. On the rear the U-bolt will be inside the side rail since the factory rack tapers inward. I'm getting some photos today for someone else of my lights. I'll get you an over head shoot of where the U-bolt aligns.

ok it looks and it looks like it might be able to use the u bolts but the only ones Home Depot had were either too small or a tab too big and they look smaller in diameter then the ones you have there....does anyone know the size of the bolts they used?

I don't remember exactly, but I think mine were 1-3/4 inch. Get them long. I coated them first witha rubberized undercoating so they wouldn't show any rust. I also used threadlock to secure the bolts and then sprayed the rubberized undercoating over any bare metal.

Sorry I forgot to post these yesterday. This is more detailed shots of the U-bolts. I didn't use any of the screws on sliders to hold the sides on the rails. All of them where replaced using regular bolts do to clearance issues with the U-bolts.

Front from the side with the cap removed. Note how the U-bolts goes thru the side rail.

What is the Surco mount part number you guys are using to mount to the side rails?

I thought this is the mount for the KJ/basket: Surco 1101 Clamp Mount Adapters

The ones you show in the above pix are the ER100. Which one is better or the correct one?

Or are you making your own mounts?

they are using u bolts from the hardware store, not a kit. The proper kit is the 1101 but for me to get that kit here is almost $200 CAD I bought the U Bolts for $5

thanks alot, those are the pictures I needed, now it looks just like mine, I didn't realize you didn't use the bracket to go over the rail. I'm gonna try and do it this am...in the snow.

got it on today....froze my mitts off but oh well.
I actually was able to still use the bracket that went over the side rail, on the fronts I drilled up through the top of it and on the backs I had my u bolt fo throught the hole on the bracket....I'll take some pics tommorow when I finish it off, still gotta get lock washers on it and grind off the excess and spray some fluid film on it all...
