Post subject:  CV's slapping against the diff housing

I finally tracked down my mystery noise in my front end.It seems my CV's are pulling out and then slapping against the diff housing(only moving about a 1/16"),it's really annoying  .Has anybody else had this problem? And if any possible solutions? I'm running the skyjacker 2 1/2" coil lift with a 3/8" clevis lift,I also have a ARB bumber with winch and my CV angles aren't any worse than I've seen Frankinlfted KJ's have.Would the HD CV's from Jeepin by Al fix this,I got alot of money in that front end and don't want to crack the case.

Eddo may know something about this. He said his were making some noises and he took them out and greased something.

I think he said there is a slip joint in there somewhere. Fairly sure it was the passenger side he was talking about. :)

The retainer ring on the end of the shaft might have compressed/worn to the point where it no longer holds the shaft in, or it could have broken. If you can pull the shaft all the way out by hand that is it. After I had that shop P________ tear mine apart to fix my ARB, they did not put a new ring on and mine made a nasty clanking, and then just pulled right out on me when I went to seperate my knuckle to replace my bad ball joint.

Mine has made a squeeking / light grinding sound on the passenger side, when it is warm outside, ever since I installed my Frankenlift. It sounds a lot like the same problem you have. I took it to the dealer and they said the left bearing was going out. From my troubleshooting, I knew it wasn't that. I have decided to wait until I get the parts together to install a Tru trac differential. I will deal with the problem at that time. If you dive into this let us know what you find.

Thanks USAFCOP,when my new parts come in I'll replace those retainers when I tear it all apart.

When do you hear this noise? I only have front-end noise in 4WD, and it's sporadic.
