I seem to again have my ball joints making noise after only 3000 miles since the recall but the noise I heard last night.... WOW. I was backing out of a driveway, turned wheel to right, as I stopped and the front end rose a little, bang!!!! felt like it was under the floor. It has happened one before same situation but was on a dirt trail. What the heck is it???? Oh and the rear bang I was getting before was the stock shock maxing out. Replaced them with longer ones and no noise. |

Well, just jack up the front end and grab the tire and see if it wiggles a lot/ more than seems reasonable. It so, didn't the LBJ recall come with a warranty? I am having the recall done next week, finally. Stephen |

They're probably gonna say its your lift causing the problems. I would take it off and then take it there, if you still have warranty left. |

I'm not sure a ball joint would make the noise mine did. If I go to the trouble of taking the lift of just so they can replace the crappy ball joints with more crappy ball joints then I will just install greasable ones. |

first the bang you are hearing could be the rear sway bar check all the bolts second I dont know what made you think that maxing out your shocks was making noise but that can not happen they have bushings that make it impossable to happen it could have been the sway bar all along and when you changed the shocks you moved it just right to make it quiet down The only cases that I know of where shocks make noise is with the rustys ,wrong size or with the TJ and the stupid bar pin on the end ,no bar pin on the KJ |

I think the stock shocks were maxing out on extension, I have the 2.5 lift, when I changed them no more bang from the rear. But who knows for sure. |

This topic of shoks banging on max extnsion was "discused" a while back simply put unless the bushing is no longer there on one end it can not bang The bushing is rubber or polly wich does not allow metal on metal contact wich also rules out banging if you jump it at 100+ mph a thud may be felt when you leave the ground but that would be the least of your worries remember that shocks are made to hold the axel up at max extension ,they keep the axel under the jeep ,when a wheel leaves the groung that is the limiting factor check the track bar on the rear It may or may not be the problem but it has no bushings on the control arm end and all it takes is one loose bolt to make it bang |
