Post subject:  OME Suspension Lift

I am needing some information from anyone who is running the OME suspension lift. I am only looking for about 1.5" of lift and this looks like a quality setup. It also offers medium and heavy duty options, which is great because my Liberty is a CRD. Information on medium vs. heavy duty would be helpful. I am currently running stock, but might add some type of brush guard in the future. I will also be towing trailers ranging from 2000-4000 lbs. periodically. Any input on wheel/tire limitations with a 1.5" lift would be great as well.

first with the crd you will need the OME crd spring
I have the ome med's on a 3.7 limited and it rides great
I dont think you could fit any thing over 30" od tire and maby 9-10" wide with out some good rubbing
I would say rule of thumb would be if it fits stock it will fit easy with this lift
I can tell you this it rides great I do not have the ome struts ,no one had them when I ordered, I have the ranchos up front
and I have the ome shocks

when I go to "the next level" of lift I plan on using the spring spacer from rustys or rocky road and puting some
super swamper thornbirds on some how
by this time it will be my DD

Jason, what do you mean by "OME crd spring"? The 927 HD, or the new spring that is in the works?

There's a thread in the CRD Section about the new CRD coils.

The 500 lb CRD springs are starting production. We have to wait for them to hit the stores. The HD Lib spring is to light for the CRD's extra weight. People have been running spacer lifts in the front with the stock CRD springs.

The new OME 500 lbs/inch spring is made to handle the extra weight of an ARB bumper and winch on a CRD. It may well turn out to be be too stiff for a CRD without this extra weight on the front. The original CRD spring is 410 lbs; the OME HD spring 400 lbs.

I believe someone in Australia is running the OME HDs on a CRD. You won't get the full 2.5 inches out of them though. I'm runnin the HDs on my gas KJ and I love them.

The OME is not a 2.5" lift kit, but rather 1.5", or 30 to 40 mm. I know that the HD's do work on a CRD, but I would prefer a bit stiffer.

How come did I get 2.5" then? Then it settled to 2.25".
Yer talkin about a prelowered KJ. Stock, it sits about an inch higher than the lowered so you only get 1.5". Not being a smart stupid or anything but you got two differant animals there. Call Quinn at All-J products he can explain it better than I can.

I see where youre coming from edwin. Ill never understand why some people get 1.5in of lift while others get 2.5in with the OME lift. I had the full OME lift on my 2004 kj. Front and rear OME shocks, with HD rear coils and MED front coils. I received exactly 1.5in under the front skid. I had 6.5in before and 8in after. :)

I didnt like the fact that it was nose down, so I put some Rustys coils on the front and now it sits perfectly level. I really like this combo. The rustys springs seem to ride alittle better since the spring rater is lower, but the Jeep looks perfect. The rear could use an extra 1/2in, but Ive got air bags in the rear.. All I need to do is pump them up to gain some lift. I have right at 9.25in under the front skid now. Thats with two conduit nuts under the clevis also.

Jeepjeepster, somthin else Quinn told me is that some KJ's springs within the same year can be differant, some saggier than others. That's like the Frankinlift, it's called a 2.5" lift but on RaeRae's KJ it must have come up about 3" or so. I put a 3" Rusty's lift on my XJ and it came up 4.5" It was the heavier spring rate lift but it settled to about 4".That's without a HD bumper or winch though. The old rear leaf springs curved up instead of down. So it's easy to see how the lifts can vary so much. When OME came out with the lifts for the KJ, these lifts were for the pre-lowered. All later KJs that were .75" lower were otherwise the same as previous years. OME just did not change the advertised lift rate. So all KJs from '02 to present have differant increases when they are lifted. So technically if you were to put a '02 OME HD lifted Kj next to my 'o4 with a OME HD lift yhey should be the same height, provided they are both equipped with the same accessories.
Whatcha think Jeepjeepster how'd I do?

Edwin I think you said it great. I know I got more than 1.5 out of my front, of course I did do a clevis also. I love my OME Heavy Dutys and would never think of putting on any other kind.

HA you guys are getting ~2" with the HD's
my springs on my '03 were sagin so bad I got around 2.25-2.5" from where it was the day befor I instaled the MED OME springs

I think the amount of lift will vary about 1" or more depending on the age milage and weather it was wheeled or not befor the lift
I also know that if I park next to a 2WD of the same year and same limited model mine dont look 2" higher and it looks about the same hight diff next to a new on the lot KJ
maby only 1.5" higher wich is every mans dream just about an inch more

jason thompson, I saw the pics of yours and no you didnt get as much lift as I did. Like I said I did a clevis also but I cant remember what combination of wood blocks you had sitting on your tire but I have more room above than yours. (Or I think it was you that showed that picture) It may very well be the difference between the mediums and the heavy dutys, clevis etc ??? who knows it seems we all get somewhat different measurements.

Post subject:  and the spring rate?

Good discussion on achieved ride height (it turns out not to be an exact science). What about the spring rate (stiffness)? Most of you are happy about OME's ride quality, but that is also rather subjective. The ride quality of my present Skyjacker kit is excellent on the road and in rough terrain, but on a bumpy track it is useless, much too soft. It really slows you down or the suspension frequently hits the bumpstops.
Would the OME HD be any better, especially on a CRD (or a gasser with ARB bumper and winch, adding equivalent amount of weight to the front)?

I ain't sure, cause I have'nt ever used the Skyjacker lift. I imagine that the weight of a gas KJ with ARB bumper and winch would be somewhere close to the CRD's weight without winch and bumper. Ride quality is an opinion. Chemguy had a Skyjacker lift on his KJ with an ARB bumper, and he liked it.
