I saw Outback's post where he is running 245/70/R17's with a 3 1/2 inch lift.

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... ght=cooper

Is anyone else running 245/70/17's out there?

If so, what lift are you using?

I really like the looks of the stock 17 inch wheels. I've got the same rims that Outback does. But, in order to get the type of tires I really want to go with I have to jump from the stock 235/65/17 to the 245/70.

Going with the 245/70 seems to open up the pool to a number of more aggressive tread patterns like the Firestone Destination M/T, the Geolander A/T-S, the Courser C/T, and the Cooper Discoverer ST and STT. I left out the Big O X/T because of the price (as discussed in another thread). The Cooper tires are currently at the top of my list as I found a local dealer and the price is right.

I'm still up in the air as to which lift I want to go with and I just want to make sure I can clear the 245/70's. No rubbing would be wonderful. I'm hoping that I can get by with an "advertised" 2 1/2 inch lift like the Rockfather I or Rusty's Coil Lift.

Any input would be greatly apreciated.

I run 245/70/16 tires with rims that have 5" BS. I have very mild rubbing on the front and rear fenders.

Ive got another set of 17" rims and Im thinking about getting some 245/65/17 tires for those. I haven't really decided yet though.. I may just stay with 235/65/17 tires for the street.. That way I wont loose any torque.. :)

OzLtd ~ Thanks! Great photo.

Jeepjeepster ~ Hhmmm? It seems strange that they would rub unless it's because of the different rims. I know there are a couple folks on the forum running 245/65/17's with no lift on stock rims. My figures show the 245/70/16 and the 245/65/17 ought to have close to the same overall dimensions for both section width and diameter.

245/70R17 are the same OD and width as 245/75R16. So just take a look what most people are running with 245/75/16. Usually a 2.5" lift.

That was my theory. I'm just trying to make sure before I dive in. If I don't get it right the first time, I'll never hear the end of it from the wife. :P

OzLtd ~ Any particular reason Brian changed from the STT to the ST?

Ohh yea, its the rims for sure. Many people run the 245/70/16 tires on stock Jeep and get no rubbing. Its not enough rubbing to worry about though. No need to cut the fenders or anything. :)
