This is a dumb question, but I'm kinda bored so what the heck, here goes:

Instead of fashioning a complete custom bumper, has anyone ever tried buying a relatively cheap warn bumper or something similar and modifying it to mount to a KJ?

Sure you'd have to be choosy about the size and shape, but I can't see why this wouldn't work.

It's a jeep thing, my levels of perception are sufficient to ascertain your implication

I gave it about 2 minutes thought - there are a lot of Truck bumper shops in Texas and many will custom weld something for you - so custom mounts shouldn't be an issue.

However I never really saw a truck bumper that I thought would look good on the KJ - and then Rock Lizard started working on his - and I'm waiting for that.

So I do not think it would be difficult - it could be expensive because you're paying for them to learn about Jeep bumper mounts and you'd probably end up leaving your Jeep there for them to custom fit it.

I'm probably really oversimplifying what it would take.

I notice that the JK has a very similar front grill/fascia to the 05 and up renegades. The aftermarket JK bumpers are really short almost entirely exposing the fronts of the wheels. Seems to me like this could have custom mounts welded on to it to make it work for the KJ.
