Funny sound up front

Does anybody else's front end make a squishy squeeky compression sound in this cold? Everytime I go over a speed bump or a dip or just a regular bump it sounds like the shocks make weird noises. Perhaps it's the cold temps?

Yup - I have a very squeaky suspension in the winter months. I do have a lift and no longer have stock springs/struts, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

From most of the topics I have read on type of noise,It's probably your swaybar bushings.Spray them up good with lube and see if the noises go away.

How hard is it to remove the front sway bar so I can really clean those bushings or replace them with polyurethane ones (Daystar or similar)? Instructions and photos would be greatly appreciated. We've had the coldest February in 11 years and my KJ groans like an achy old man at every Stop sign and over every bump. I'd be pretty embarrassed if people outside the vehicle can hear that. Makes Jeeps look cheap.

If you have a jack and some jack stands - it'd probably only take a couple of hours to unbolt the sway bar, bushings and remove to clean them. Shoot, you would probably have enough time to change the oil, while you re install the bar... All of the bolts on the bar are very accessable

I had the same problem and just sprayed the hell outta the sway bar bushings with silicone spray and no more noise....

I sprayed away and no more noise. But I'm waiting for spring with zerk in hand, I'm installing some.

No need to jack up the vehicle, in fact it will probably make it more difficult to remove since it will flex the swaybar. Just make sure the Jeep is on level ground and unbolt everything, takes me about 20 minutes but I'm slow.

Ahhh I get it, new bushings with zerks built in. Sorry, work is killing my brain today. All I can think about is involute pressure angles and gear pitches right now. AHHHHH!!!

I wouldnt jack up the jeep. You probably wouldnt even be able to get them off, unless you lifted it so that both the wheels were off the ground. even then, there could be pressure on the sway bar. Best to leave it on the ground.

jdumont, you do not need new bushings. All you need to do is drill a hole in the sway bar bracket, and also through the bushing. Tap some treads in the bracket, put the zerk in and be happy.

What kind of grease does everyone use with their zerks? Is Lithium grease ok to use?

Use whatever gets used in the rest of the zerks right? As long as there is no petroleum in it there shouldnt be any issues...

I am actually taking the Jeep to the dealer tomorrow to have the ball joints replaced. I think I will just have them take a look at it. How much do you guys think they will rip me off to fix the squeeky noise? I want to go in with my guns loaded!!

Hey Pete, I'll definitely let you know about the noise. And, yes, I do plan to go out with you guys this year. My Jeep is still pretty much stock though, do you guys go to stock friendly places? Enjoy the snow!!

Hey guys this is the easiest fix i've had to do yet!!!! The noise that you are hearing is your bushngs, Which are dry and need some lube.I went to my local canadin tire and picked up some mutiple purpose silicone spay ( Ensure it says SAFE ON RUBBER), crawl undr the kj and spary all the bushings! since i have done this (3weeks ago) i havent heard that annoying noise going over speed bumps or pull into parking lots ex. It's a easy fix....and who cares if i might have to do it every month, a can of spray's only pocket change!!

DON'T WORRY about being stock, as long as you have skid plates you'll be fine we have another guy who is all stock with skid plates & he does just fine a good spotter is everything :wink:

And the winner is..... renegadekj. According to the dealership it is the bushings. They ordered some for me and they are being replaced on Saturday. Got the ball joints replaced now I'm ready to head out with you guys Pete!! How about that snow (or lack there of)??
