I tried to keep the photos similar in angle. Not perfect, but good enough! (And it's pretty obvious that I have a much better camera in the after photos.) Front ![]()

Great job on the basket. Is it loud at all at highway speeds? I used some round stock to make some crossbarrs to haul the canoe on, and that thing made me nuts. I even had end caps on. I took em off and sprung for the Mopar cross bars because of the aerodynamics. |

riptricket wrote: what kinda roof basket is that? love the setup! That is the "famous" $99 Discount Ramps roof basket. The crossbars are 1" square steel bars from Home Depot. $10 a piece. I think I might have spent $30 in materials for the crossbars. BVCRD wrote: Great job on the basket. Is it loud at all at highway speeds? The wind noise is not bad at all even at 70MPH. I think that the noise is less because the nuts are hidden in the bars. I used a 3/4" hole saw to cut the hole in the bars so I could get a 1/2" ratchet into the bars to tighten the nuts. I then capped the holes. |

I used 1 inch electrical conduit and used Muffler clamps to attach it to the stock roof rack. It worked great and was bulletproof. Just louder than heck. |

Thanks for the positive feedback! I've already used the rack last weekend. When you have 2 dogs, 2 people, and a weekend worth of camping gear, the roof basket really comes in handy. I had about 75lbs. or so loaded up there and was on some rough trails...it held up great! One thing left to get and that's a set of Skink Sliders with the step extension. I have to wait until Rock Lizard gets caught up with their bumper orders before I can get them. Worth the wait, though. |

Snow is 2 hours away in Utah. We can't seem to get rid of this pesky sun out here in Vegas. I actually had to put off taking the "after" pics for a day due to...gasp...rain. We get a grand total of 4" of rain per year...I'm not complaining. Kinda sucks if you want to go muddin' though. |

Thanks for taking the time to document the before and after shots. What a difference! I have to say I love the height that KJ's have and with the lift it looks that much higher. |

very nice set-up you got there ! I used metal strut bars (11/4 in.) for my cross bars and no noise what so ever ! Even when I put two bikes up on top. |

Looks great - a couple of questions for you. 1. Where did you get the caps for the crossbars? I have a similar setup but cannot find the right caps. 2. Did you paint the bars? If so, what kind of paint did you use? |

I got the caps at home depot. The square caps are in the hardware section where all of the steel and aluminum bars and rods are. The round caps are in the specialty fastener drawers in the hardware section. As for the paint, I cleaned the bars with some denatured alcohol and then sanded them lightly to give the surface some texture. I then put 3 coats of Rustoleum hammered spray paint. Should last and looks great. |
