Post subject:  winch bumper options

Hello everyone.

I'm trying to figure out what all our winch bumper options are. So far I know of ARB and Trail Ready.

I also learned about Rock Lizard, but it appears that you can't mount a winch to them (although you can hook one up to the built-in receiver that they have).

I appreciate your input, thanks, Ivan.

The ARB is an excellent crash tested winch bull bar, but it decreases your approach angle some. TJM has just released a similar crash tested winch bumper. I'm sure the Rock Lizard front bumper will also be of excellent quality when it comes out. I'm not sure if the Trail Ready bumpers are still being manufactured. Most people buy ARBs, but selection mostly comes down to appearance, approach angle, and winch compatibility.

Hey Guys,
I have the owner Jeff at Adrenaline Off Road (www.adrenalineoffroad.com) checking the price and availability for the Trailready bumper. When I find out something I will let you know. :P

After dealing with Jeff at Adrenaline Off Road (www.adrenalineoffroad.com), he gave me a price of $775.00 + shipping. Jeff is a super guy and responds to emails very quickly.

One problem with the winch bumpers, and I think an important one, is that your packing the weight around 24/7 over the front end. With the Rock Liz or the front hitch/stock bumper setup you only have the weight there and the overhang when you need a winch.
The price for the winch/mount, front hitch and wiring setup is about the same price as the bare bumpers mentioned.

Thats actually a very good price. So I could call those guys up and order a TR bumper for my 2005 KJ? All places I talked to said they dont have a TR bumper for my KJ.

Hey Endurance,
That price that Jeff gave me was for a 2003. I see in your sig that you have an 2005 CRD, and I am not sure if takes the same bumper as the one that Jeff quoted me. Go ahead and contact Jeff at Adrenaline Off Road www.adrenalineoffroad.com and see what he can do for you. Just let him know the year, make, model, and what you are looking for. He is very quick with e-mails.

I really dont see any reason why the existing TR bar wouldnt fit the later models. The only thing is you'd lose your fog lights and indicators. All you'd have to do is get some genuine indicators and stick them behind the bar, and as for fogs - we'll you'd go big spotties anyway ?

Post subject:  fog lights

The TR front bumper comes with cut outs intended for the stock fog lights that come in the 2002-2004 KJs.

So you can always get lights to fit those holes so you can have spotties mounted atop the bumper, and fog lights in the recessed ports.

I'm not sure how the top edge of the bumper would line up on the fender flared though. Ideally, it would line up with the bottom edge of the turn indicator. Hopefully it doesn't line-up in the middle of the turn indicator because that would create a big gap.

The TR bumper comes with cutouts designed for 4-5" PIAA lights...not really for stock lights but you could probably make them fit. The bumper has a little adjustment up and down so you can probably make it fit all years of KJs...but it will cover up the newer fog light holes that are on the grill insert. The turn signals fit behind a "slotted" section so newer KJs could just get turn sigs from a 2002 or so and fit them in place or maybe the curent ones could be moved to the slot.

Oh, ok. Thought the holes were exact matches for the 02-04 stock fog lights. Thanks for the clarrification.

So is there a place to mount the license plate? How about the rear TR bumper?

That bumper (TR) is ugly.

Go with the Rock Lizard Rear bumper.

There is not a "spec" place for the front or rear plate for that matter. On the front you have a couple of options. You can affix your plate just under the "winch mount"...just drill a couple of holes and it will cover the "TR logo"...or if you get a roller fairlead you can use flashlight (mag light size) clips to clip it on the vertical rollers and remove it offroad easily. On the rear there is no place for the plate or light...I had mine where the spare was since my spare was mounted inside the KJ.

As for "ugly"...hardly...very strong and you can order it "without" the taillight guards.

I love the TR front and rear bumbers, would have got them but trying to actually get them is mission impossible so I went with the ARB and very soon RL rear.By they way I personally love the TR rear taillight guards, makes the KJ look mean  .

I have been trying make up my mind on the RL or TR. Called TR they have rears ready to ship now, I like the rear tail light guards also but will end up with an RL I think due to price

I would like to get front and rear bumpers, ideally from the same manufacturer. I also want my front bumper to be a winch bumper, not just have a receiver.

Right now, TR is the only company that I know of that makes a front winch bumper and a rear bumper for the KJ. I like the way they look too.

I wish the TR rear bumper had some of the features of the Rock Lizzard, such the inclusion of the tow wiring plug and the option of the spare tire carrier and jerry can carrier.

Does anyone know if TR is planning any tire carriers?

I currently run 245s and eventually 265s, and want to keep the spare mounted on the rear door with an extension.

Does anyone know if this arrangement still work with the TR rear bumper?

Ivan

how much are the tr rear bumpers going for?

arb makes a nice winch bumper, dont forget....

Jeep R Roo 14 received a quote for $775 (see thread below). Sounds like a good price.

The ARB bumpers are nice, but I like how the TR has the shackle tabs higher and out of the way than the ARB. I also prefer to have both the front and rear bumper from the same manufacturer.

I have penty of time before I get it, some other options may open up though.

They priced me 885 for the rear a while back before RL started, think i will just go with his when he finally gets caught up on the orders. Dont think you can keep spare with the TRs from the pictures I have of them
