Hello, I would like to know what specifically makes the NV231HD stronger than the NV231.

Can a NV231 be easily rebuilt into a NV231HD?

Can my stock NV231 be easily swapped out with a NV231HD?

Thanks, I appreciate any info, Ivan.

The NP231HD should have the same case and be a bolt in replacement for the NP231. The main difference is the HD has 1.5" chain and comes in Dodges while the non-HD has a 1" chain and comes in Jeeps. Check out these pages:

The 231HD case looks alot different than my 242. It looks like it has twice as many bolts in it. Im not sure what the regular 231 case looks like though. :?

The NP242 probably uses the larger NP241 case to fit the center differential.

Some random info:

The Jeep Command-Trac HD system uses the NP231 J (NP231) while Dodges use the NP231 D (NP231HD). It seems that the Command-Trac and Command-Trac HD systems are the same thing.

OK, so does it have the wider chain then, or is it just a new better label?

Ivan.
