i just bought the 2.5" spacer lift from rustys and started putting it on and i could not for the life of me get the fork(the piece under the shock and spring that connects to the lower control arm) i did pretty much eveything i could with out disconnecting that lower control arm. is there another way to do get this lift on?! or any sweet little tips. the other thing was that because of the upper control arm i couldnt get a spring compresser on it either... cause there wouldnt have been a problem if i coulda gotten it compressed! so please any help is much appreciated!!

You didn't mention if you disconnected your upper control arm ball joint...
with that disconnected, your lower control arm will drop even lower and then you will have room to use your spring compressor if necessary.
Good Luck!

Post subject:  rustys lift install

i started to loosen it and it did give me alittle bit more room but not enough(i didnt pull it completely apart though, cause as soon as the nut hit the bottom of the screw, the whole thing-screw/nut, started to spin) but i would rather NOT have to pull my control arms apart and maybe screw them up with mis-alignment. but ill try that though if i dont get any other helpful hints! so thank you very much for the tip and lemme know if you see or hear of anything else!!!

This may sound kind of brutish but this is what I did. I did not remove the ball joint. I just removed the bolt that holds the fork on and made sure it was loose. Then I put my foot on the hub and stood on it. bounced it a bit and it popped out. Was much easier to put back on than get off. If you do this please make sure your KJ is on jack stands and stable.

note: The strut assembly must still be bolted in at the top for this to work on getting the fork off.

i dont have a problem getting the "fork"/clevis bolts out...it's trying to get the bottom bolt to mate up with the bracket on the lower control arm. so like i said...ive loosened but havent totally disconnected the ball joint thats connected to the upper arm.

so would disconnecting this balljoint give me the needed room you think to install this lift?!

When you put the lift on it will throw the allignment out. Dont worry about that because you have to let the springs settle before you get it alligned. Go ahaid and pull both the upper and lower control arms off and get that sucker in there!

MKE,
I just this past weekend tried installing that same lift 3 times and had the exact same problem that you are having. Honsetly due to my time restraints, I had to have my machanic do it for me. He told me that it was a pain in the booty and that he hated doing it. I still have not figured out the secret of how to do it. Rusties told me that you just have to play with it. But I was more worried about breaking something. Best advice I can give is have a pro. do this one for you.
