I'm just curious what differences the renegade package has.
Reading through Jeep Website it seems like it has rock rails, different roof rack, different driving lights, alternator. It looks like it used to have mechanical fan and skid plates standard. Also, it mentions a different hood and grill but I dont see a clear difference(maybe I just need to look closer at one). On wikipedia I saw something about the transfer case being an HD but I'm not sure if this is true. Also, Is it any higher or is it the same height as standard KJs?

The hood and grill are flat on all 2005-2006 Renegades, while they dip down between the headlamps on non-Renegades. I think all automatic transmission Command-Trac Libertys have the same standard NP231 J transfer case. All Libertys built after April 2002 should be "lowered" and the same height. All 2005 Renegades should come with Renegade wheels and, unless it has been "deleted," the light bar. Some Renegades might also come standard with "riveted" flares, tail lamp guards and tow hooks. The different Renegade model years seem to have different standard features and packages.

Oh ok, I see the difference in the hood on yours.

On '05 Renegades all of armor and light bar were options. Even 4X4 was an option

I'm pretty sure the lightbar was standard on 05 Renegades and there was an option to remove it, but maybe that was just the D Package or whatever they call it. At least that's what the Jeep website said, but we've known it to be wrong in the past :? Not to mention you drive an 05 Renegade

The Renegade is the "bling" package. On older Wranglers the Renegade was easily noticed by the large plastic fender flares that swept down into large plastic side steps. Often called the "Tupperware Jeep".

Some people believe the Renegade to be the off-road edition of the Liberty while some believe it to be the mall-crawler deluxe version.

The only useful part on the Renegade for off-roading are the roof mounted lights. The rock rails are only good for light duty use and will crumple on the first hard contact with a rock.

the easy way to tell if Renegade's are for the mall or trail... does that special hood have better visibility or worse?

I have a Renegade and I know that there are better options then the light bar! The full skid plate system has saved my stupid in a few situations. Might not be the best, but still looks tougher than a sport or the other overly plastictisized model. At least Renegade ownwers got some semi trail ready vhics. What do all liberty ownerners have to do? Lift, rock bars and so on. Don't rip on the Renegade if you are unhappy with your sport or that other plastic model!

My rails did very well, supported the weight of the jeep more than once. It wasn't until I was bouncing up some "stairs" (required some momentum) with 4 people in the Jeep that I did this. (I wouldn't say that it "crumpled")

The skid plates (plus Mopar Trans skid) perform well, and the lights are very functional too. The towing package (not sure if standard on Renegade) also has performed well (7 Pin harness with 4 pole flat adapter VERY handy). In fact the hitch on the rear acts as a very sturdy skid plate in the rear as well as housing a Warn shackle recover point.

I've had to do very little work to prep this thing for moderate trail use.

...My 2 cents.

Along with the Lights, Rivet flares, fog lights, tupperware basket, nice wheels, bigger tires, leather interior, EVIC, Select Track, and Rock Rails; mine came with the Trac Lock LSD so that is an advantage over Sport and Limited. Came with the skids except the Tranny Skid. Heavier duty Transfer Case. Of course that is from the older model (`04) Reny's.

I'm not sure if you're saying Sports and Limiteds don't have the Trac-Lock LSD option, but my Sport has it.

The Rengade only comes with CommandTrac, correct? The NP231 CommandTrac transfer case can handle more torque than the NP242 SelecTrac transfer case: 1885 lb ft vs. 1486 lb ft. Also, as 65thKJ mentioned, don't forget the larger alternator: 160A vs. 136A The Renegade also has a 120CC 600RC battery. I'm sure the Renegade hood has less visibility because it doesn't dip down.

Tokyojoe, do you have a manual transmission and which transfer case do you have? I'm trying to determine what combinations come in which vehicles. I heard somewhere that manuals come with the heavier duty NP241 transfer case.... I believe the service manual actually has the 241 listed as an option.

My 04 auto came with Select-Trac, NOT Command-Trac. Only part time, and low range....

i would definately ditch the poser hood since its counterproductive. but im not a fan of the nissan rip off rivet fenders. or any of the front ends after they messed up the front bumper with that commander looking thing.

i wouldnt brag about those ankle biters that get yur pants dirty as being "rock rails". i like the lights on top but i would rather not have them for aerodynamics, same with the roof rack, took my rails off even. if it doesnt fit inside it can stay home ;) im sure the lights make the bigger alternator necessary.

and my limited has fog lights, same bigger tires, tow, hd cooling, leather, LSD and the same skids yurs does

mine has a truck transmission, yours doesnt. obviously with a ft/lb rating above 1400, neither transfer case is a weak point. mines not a lowrider, all the Renegades are lowered arent they?

You're not comparing Renegades to non-Renegades anymore. You're comparing <2002.5's to 2002.5<'s. Remember that when you're not using the lights, which is 99% of the time, you still have a 160A alternator for compressors, winches, and amps. The 45RFE is only one step up from the 42RLE in Chrysler's empirical transmission nomenclature. Really, every feature exclusive to the Renegade, except the looks, is a moot point. Serious off-roaders will upgrade the factory parts. However, it would cost a fortune to upgrade the styling. It's all personal preference....

The paint is going to be scratched off your expensive Limited flares, bumpers, and rocker panels, your drum brakes are going to fill with mud, and your 27-spline Dana 35C is going to snap an axle shaft  Arguing about it is pretty stupid; they all have pros and cons. A more productive task would be to document what models/years come with which features.

my 2005 ( from the sticker & leaving out the less interesting points)

- 4 wheel discs
- command trac HD Part -time 4wd
- Jeep IS43 Suspension
- fog lamps
- rock protection sill rails
- 16x7 aluminum wheels w P225/75R16 all season tires
Option Package 28X
- off road group ( skids,Trac-lok,P235R70 16 tires, HD cooling)

As I mentioned before. even the 4x4 was an option. I had a hard time finding one and considerd ordering a 2006.

I agree! It's a bit confusing, as this thread shows. How do we get a chart like this done?
