I was on the auburn site and noticed that they now make a locker for the dana 30. previously i was think that i was going to put in a ARB but the price to have one installed in the 8.25 rear was $2800.00 (CND) Installed with the compressor!!Not going to pay 5000.00 to get lockers front and rear.My origional thought was to do it myself but i dont have the time and the kj is a daily driver. Anyway back to my question, Auburn says they offer this ECTED:
545017 27T Dana 30-3.73:1 ratio & up
Will this fit in my Dana30a? And does anyone have any information on these lockers? (reliability?)

If I recall the ECTED is not a good fit for the front differential because the LS is preloaded and will affect steering.

I got a True Trac up front and have no problems with it,hardly can tell it's there until shifted into 4WD.the ECTED for a dana30 should fit the dana30a case since the only difference between the 2 is the pinion length.

The problem with a front locker that acts as a LSD when not engaged is that iam required to use fulltime 4WD ALOT do to the extreme winter conditions. I will find a locker that is a open differential when disengaged someday i guess.(Besides a ARB) Let me know if any one else makes one??

Do they make it for the rear? Limited slip with a locker at the push of a button would be sweet. I wouldn't want the limited slip in the front though.

Well with my True Trac LSD up front it kicks a&^ in the slippery stuff when I have to use 4WD(have command trac),it pulls you right through the turns on ice and snow,a big change when I was still open up front. The ECTED should not be any different then the TT exept you can push a button to make it lock like a spool.

It sounds like we need a need someone to try one out then. If I can confirm it will work in the Dana 30a, It may be me.

It might be worth me looking into then.. I will see what kind of a price i can get it for . tjkj does it steer harder when you have it in fulltime 4wd? I wouldnt think twice if it was just me driving but the fiance is the one i have to think about

Well I don't have fulltime 4WD,I have the command trac with only 2hi,4hi,and 4lo.In 4wd yes you know it's there, the steering wheel will return to center faster but the ECTED should act the same as the TT so it should unlock(slip) when turning and not make funny noises. In fulltime 4wd it should be fine, after a little while you won't even notice it,after 2-3 days I didn't notice my TT anymore.Just think if you have the selecttrac transfer you basically have a ECTED LSD in the transfer case,in fulltime it can slip but put it in parttime 4wd it locks it up so both driveshafts spin the same speed.Hope this helps, good luck.

In Full Time the Detroit TT will make steering heavier and it will pull back to center with some authority. That is the only drawback if you have anyone else driving your KJ.

tjkj2002,
The limited slip in the ECTED does not behave the same as TT. It is preloaded. A call to Auburn will confirm whether or not the ECTED is OK for use in the front differential.

The TT is preloaded also, more than the ECTED due to being gear driven and not clutch driven, but really depends on the torque sent it's way.Either one will work with the ECTED having that total lock-up available, but the LSD part in the ECTED will wear out in time due to the clutches, how long I don't know.
