OK, so looking to lock up the rear this year. Have read post from skrracing (good post & thanx) on different lockers but still have questions as i have the manual trans.

1) i was originally planning to go w/the Powertrax no-slip but seem to remember reading some posts from guys w/the manual trans who installed the Powertrax and had difficulties with shifting. Can't remember tho if that was w/the PT "no-slip" or the PT "lock right". Anybody?

2) Also considering the Auburn limited slip or the Detroit Tru-Trac but, here again, curious if any out there have had experience installing these in the manual trans configuration.

Guess i am leaning toward the Auburn at this point but really looking to get some IMO's from any who've had experience w/this. As always thanx in advance and remember, if U want 2 play U gotta' pay! (or at least, that's what i keep tellin' myself)

I'm one of the people that installed the Powertrax in a 5-speed. Removed it right away due to the tranny not liking it at all.

I am also waiting on some fedback on the Auburn up front, but no feedback yet. I like the idea of turning it on and off at will, but am worried about the "limited slip" in the front.

Is there any way that you guys could get Trac-Loc lockers? That's what came in my rubicon and I LOVE them. They have absolutley no bearing on anything when they aren't activated, but turn them on and its a true locker. I have no idea if they would fit in your diffs though.

Why not the ARB Air locker? Looks like its the same deal, no adverse effects when it isn't engaged, but turn it on and BAM-uber traction.

I've used the Tru-Trac and Torsen Gleasons, which are very similar, with manual transmissions for many years and over 100,000 miles on either with zero problems. They aren't what I classify as a true lockers as they use torque sensing to manipulate the amount of power each wheel has instead of being locked and power going evenly to each side all the time. I think I remember they can split power to the wheel with the most traction by a 9 to 1 ratio if I remember right. They were quiet and smooth while on the street, the front steering is heavier, but soon I didn't notice it anymore.

I had the no slip in my ranger for a week and sold it to my buddy, I now have the truetrac and I'm much happier. My ranger is a manual, but my kj is auto. I like the manners of the truetrac alot better. It can be fooled into acting like a full locker if you get a wheel jacked up, just alittle brake presure and both wheels will pull together just like a locker. So I get the best of both worlds, great road manners, and an awesome offroad lsd than can be locked. For pure rock crawling it would be a pain in the butt to keep using the brake, actually I just apply the emergency brake alittle, this free's my feet up for the other pedals, but for just rock crawling the no slip would be better. For normal trails, mud and snow and some rocks, its an awesome unit. I want to put one in the kj as well.

Keep that in mind and buy the ARB
You will not regret it at all
Get the "big" compressor and use it to air up your tires after a ride ,2 birds 1 stone

I would say that depends on what you want to do with your jeep, if your into boulder bashing, you may want a selectable locker, I believe that I would perfere elecro locker, no airlines or compresser to mess with, but it would come in handy as a source for air, so it has it's pluses as well. I just trail ride in the mountains of W,Va, so the truetrac works fine for the situations I find myself in. A truetrac in the front and rear would about seal the deal for me and be perfect. If you want to get into the more extreme stuff, a regular locker off some kind would be more benificial to you, as you could wear out a set of brakes with the truetrac locking it up if your wheels are allways in the air ha ha. There' so many good choices out there, it's just deciding what best fits your needs and budget.

FWIW, I & my wife both hate the street manners of the powertrax. It works fine off road but really is annoying on the street. It will be coming out in the future, when I regear to 4.10s, and most likely I will hit up unixxx for an ARB.

Thanx guys. As always i appreciate the input. Believe me, if i had the $$$ for an ARB i would not have even posted. Unfortunately, Jeeps are hard to build up w/a degree in Social Work  so i must remain budget minded while looking for the right upgrades. That being said i will probably go w/the Auburn or Detroit Tru-Trac when the time comes.

Can hardly wait but i need to armor up a bit more B4 going there. Should have my dif. cover from Poison Spider next week w/RRO super sliders soon 2 follow. Then i'll take care of the rear. Thanx again!
