Post subject:  I BUSTED MY OIL PAN!!!!

Hey guys i dented up my oil pan and now its shot to hell. i need a new one cuz theres a seeping leak and its unrepairable. Wheres the cheapest place to get one and what's involved in replacing it? I guess i had a little too much fun on the snow banks. lol. Would skids protect the oil pan?
Thanks!

I think most would tell you that the oil pan is just waiting to be smashed more so than anything else. Get skids to avoid this problem in the future and with other parts.

I think it would be the engine skid plate and trans skid that cover the pan. $41 a piece from jparts.com (
http://jparts.com/index.php?cPath=23&page=3&osCsid=6063b8798249e46b44c7b16b81db3cbe) As long as you don't beat the crap out of them, the plates seem to do fine.

Also note that the Trans skid must be modified to fit an 02 - 04 libby.

A junk yard pan would be fine. Clean it up real well, new gasket and your ready to go!

I just slapped on a set of full mopar skids about an hour ago! I now have a lil piece of mind and will definitely get out and do some runs here for sure! I went with the mopars cause I dont think i will ever need the added "beef" of the real skids out there for what I want to do. But I say this now..........

Well according to the service manual you need to remove the engine(or for clearence, remove front diff).I looked under my KJ and at the least you are most likely going to have to raise it(the engine) to get the oil pan off(it's got some clearance issues). At least the good news is the pan gasket/windage tray is reuseable.

Are you even sure its your oil pan-thats kinda hard to hit because its way up there. I bet it's your tranny pan and you dont know what you'er looking at. Is this what you hit?

How to replace: you turn all the bolts holding it on counterclockwise. To re-install, get some RTV, read the instructions on the tube, replace pan and turn those same bolts clockwise this time, ideally in a pattern that will torque it down evenly. Replace ATF fluid, not oil.

Mopar tranny skid. You get what you pay for. Replaced with All-J's SuperSkid.

Glad I have a beefier one than that piece of tin.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at but did the skid plate bend and hit the oil pan? Causing the oil pan to dent? If so has anyone beefed up the OEM skid plates?

Well, the factory skid won't hold up to the majority of the vehicle's weight being on it. I'm not sure any would. It will deflect the rocks and keep one from cracking the thing like an egg.

that is the tranny pan you see all dented up and yes the tranny skid plate did the damage. As for beefing the OEM skids up...don't think anyone has except for buying new plates to replace them...

Thats the mopar tranny skid crushed into the tranny pan. Again, that's not an oil pan.

All-J's Super Skid most definately would. Considering the cost of 2 mopar skids (original and inevitable replacement), new pan, fluids and time-I think it's worth every penny. Thats if you dont crush your valve body in the process-then it's a bargain.

Here's a thread where someone was going to beef up the mopar skid.
