Post subject:  Lift kit/Tire Questions

I'm new to this site and been checking it out for a while and getting some great advice from a lot of the folks. I'm thinking of lifting my liberty renegade cause it looks too short and small stock size. I was thinking about either the Rusty's budget lift or 4wd 2" lift. I wonder how much my mechanic will charge for the install. I want to keep my stock rims so what's the biggest size tires I can fit on them (16")? Would I also need to install wheel spacers? By going with a lift and bigger tires will I hurt my gas mileage and should I worry about highway cruising speeds? This is my daily driver and most of my commute is on the highway. I'm not really planning on hitting any trails. Thanks for any help!

My reney didn't take a gas hit with the lift, but tires will hit for 3-5mpg - in my experience. If you want to go on the cheap side, do a daystar or a revtek spacer lift, although most folks will claim that the ride will be better with the $500 rusty's coil lift. You shoiud be able to run 245/75's then... A better solution is to keep your stock tires and put some big ones on some craiger soft 8's for weekends or when ever you don't care about the 3-5mpgs...

What if I go with the budget lift & leave the stock 235/70/16 tires on? Would it look silly? Or maybe going to a 245/70/16 w/lift?

there are a lot of variables. MT/AT/street tire is one (rolling resistance, along with width). weight of tire. KJ gearing, etc. it looks OK with 29" stockers, but if you go up it does look better. if you go 245/70, you may not need a lift.

It'll look just like this:

That's my 2005 renegade sporting a 3" frankenlift with the stock 16x7" graphite rims and 235/70R16 Goodyear Wrangler SR/A tires

Course this is how much better it looks with 245/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs:

Your ride looks cool Se7enLC! When going with 245/75/16 & lift, do you have to change any gears or add any wheel spacers?

No, you shouldn't need to. Some folks are adding 4.10's, but they are doing it more for the rock climbing than anything else...

Post subject:  No "Budget" lift

I tried the "Budget" lift. Looks good, rode nice untill the lack of a bumpstop killed the struts. Spring rate is a bit soft for the heavier tires. Wish I would ahve saved the money and just went for the Frankenlift.

There is no budget in poor design. Search for Rocky Road's budget lift here, and you'll see a lot of blown struts.

my 22,000 cents.

wheel spacers may or may not be needed for a given tire size, it depends on how close the side wall comes to the inboard parts. with 245/75 16s on the stock wheels, i couldnt get a pinky between but never rubbed due to flex, prob due to E rating.
