So I was reading somewhere, can't find it again, where if I was to change my Trani and Tcase fluids that I should use the Mopar ATF+4 Fluid. But after going to the dealer and finding out it was $8.25 a quart I was wondering if there are any other options. I mean if I just used a regular Trani fluid would that make any major problems? And also, the A-Hole who owned my Libby last took my owner's manual. So what are the capacities of the Trani, Tcase, and rear end? Thanks for any help.

$8.25 is not too much for quality. i personally dont suggest you buy mopar fluid, but you should spend at least that much on some decent stuff somewhere. most people are recommending amsoil universal fluid. thats what i use.

You need to use ATF+4 or Amsoil ATF,all others will destroy your tranny. You can get ATF+4 at most auto parts stores now.Valvoline makes it at about $2-$2.50 a qt,ATF+4 is also a full synthetic ATF.

You can pick up Mopar AFT+4 at Walmart for about $4/quart. If you really want to save you don't need ATF4 in the t-case. Any decent ATF will work.

DO NOT use regular atf in the trans. It requires atf+4. I just paid $4.98 a quart for valvoline atf+4. I have the 45rfe it took about 8 quarts when i changed the filters and put the shift kit in. The t/case takes 2 quarts. I think the rear takes 2-2.5 quarts of gear oil.

Be careful using/believing the "full synthetic" line. You do not have to have a true FULL synthetic base stock lube to be able to call it "full" or Synthetic these days. Some companies still stand behind their "Full Synthetic" claim and prove it with info to back it up. Also realize that just because it says ATF+4 on the bottle doesn't mean it is a "Quality" product and It still only has to meet the minimum requirements for that specification or application. (remember Castrol Vs. ExxonMobil) You all know by now that I could go on and on about this but please realize that by spending only a little bit more on your prized Jeep (or any of your vehicles for that matter) you could be doing so much better for it in the long run.

T-case dosen't need ATF+4, just the trans. There is a difference between the two. I've run a synchromesh fluid in the t-case for about 30k and haven't had one single problem. ATF+4 is just specified for continuity. A lot of old timers run light weight motor oil in the t-case in the XJ and TJs. I don't recommend it because even light weight motor oil is thicker than ATF. Just make sure you use ATF+4 or equivalent in the trans though and if you are paranoid about warranty works just use ATF4 will work fine.

OK by the owner manual slot you mean the slot that is above the glove box? As I work for a car dealer, I'm gettin an owner's manual free. Yeah went to Wally-world and saw the Mopar ATF+4 was like $4.25 so thats a better idea. So usually you want to change your trani, tcase, and gear oil about every 50K right? Well unless you work it real hard or somethin. Thanks
