I'm looking at a receiver for recovery purposes for a front hitch.

would something like the warn receiver shackle combo be better than this guy, or are they equally good?

I like a shackle my self due to if in some extreme situations the loop (from the strap) may come off of the hook. I have only had it happen twice in over 25 years when I was pulling on someone with a hook like that, but its just what I like. Both times we were on some very extreme angles so you maybe able to use one of them for years no problems

Shackels are better for me because when there is that chance of getting stuck you can put the strap on and dont have to get out for help

i have used the Warn Receiver Shackle in my rear hitch because i was really really stuck, so my bro hooked his chain upto my shackle and got me out. i then had to do the same for him, but he had to use my receive shackle because he doesn't have one. so i bought him one for x-mas.

I used hooks for front and rear receivers, and they seemed to work for me. Some of the times we just turned them upside down if the angle dictated it. BUT some of the guys that were doing the pulling didn't prefer them at all. Having said all of that, I just traded a guy one of my hooks for a receiver shackle. That way I can leave a strap attached on the front for the occasional pull

just get the warn shakle. I would feel better pulling from a D shakle than worrying about it falling off the hook or bending the hook again.

I’ve herd of the hooks “bending” but it’s not actually the hooks it’s the mount that bends. So far I have had no problem with my front hooks. I’m waiting for the RL front bumper once that comes in I’m getting rid of those hooks D shackles defiantly work better. I need on for the rear.
