| Post subject: | New Rear Shocks Needed - Looking for Suggestions |
I need to replace the rear shocks that come with Rusty's KJSS suspension kit. I had the shocks on for almost 3 years without any problems. Now I have a horrible rattling noise when going over bumps. It sounds like the tailgate is going to fall off. I think the problem has been isolated to the rear shocks--nothing lose on the tailgate or glass. I searched through some posts on rear shocks. The OME Nitrochargers came up and I was wondered about the different between the All J's nitochargers and those sold by Rusty's. There is a drastic difference in the price ($40 vs. $85) so my first assumption is that they are not the same rear shocks. Rusty's: http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product_Code=OMEShocks&Category_Code=SHOCKS All J's: http://www.boulderbars.com/OME-N132L_jeep_liberty_long_travel_shocks.htm What type of Rancho shocks would fit on a 2.5" lifted KJ? |

The shocks from All J's are the new extended shocks. They are for lifted Jeeps and will give more flex on the rear. The OME shocks from Rustys are only a 1/2in longer then the stock shocks but will do just fine. These are the shocks that I use with my OME lift. |

Yeap like Jeepjeepster said. All J's commisioned ARB/OME to make a special longer shock. Look back a page or two and you'll see a multiple page thread all about it. Quite interesting. I'm getting a set for mine since my rancho are getting a bit rough too. hope that helps. mike edit: here ya go, found the thread on it, page 3 http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=18432 |

Price is soon forgotten, Quality is not... Disc valved OME shocks are far superior to the Rancho's foam cell's, and they're valved for a KJ, not a Durango! Get the OME N132L's from All J and you're going to be a lot happier in the long run. |

wasnt questioning the quality. just stating you can get a great shock for a decent price, i think its funny that the ranchos were THE shock for the kj, until the ome shocks came out, now they arent good enough. supply and demand is a funny thing. is allj going to stop selling the $64/ea ranchos now that the ome's are in? btw, ive had the ranchos on for " the long run " and have had no issue with them. do you guys offer a lifetime replacement guarantee with the ome's? |

The only reason that the Ranchos were THE shock was it fit a lifted KJ allowing the 2.5" lift to actually work. There was quite a bit of searching for an existing shock when it was discovered that you could use the Durango shock. The new Extended OME is THE shock now as it rides great, fits the KJ perfect (made just for it) and Works great off road. The Ranchos are Ok and will work but there is definately a nice improvement w/ the new OME's. |

Thanks for all of the replies and lively discussion! FYI...I just had the front sway bar bushings replaced this morning--third set and only 40K miles on a 2002 KJ. Although driving on any of the roads here in PA is pretty much offroading. |

Give All J a call as they are the only one selling the new, extended length OME's. |

I called three times today and no one is answering the phones. There's a message that they would be out of the office through April 9th but today is the 12th. |

Did you get one of the Rock Lizard rear bumpers? How is that going to figure in to the equation since it's fairly hefty. I have the rear frankenlift shocks/coils and there's a lot of weight back there when we go out (we load everything up in the back, kids, dog and now the 110lbs bumper) --- I'm just concerned I'm going to lose the travel. Should I start looking for HD coils and different shocks? Suggestions? |
